Watched the first half with an eye on Eze and MLS.

Thought they were both rather solid. Eze was good in the press. MLS (remember, he’s 19) very competent against a strong side.

Encouraging, to me.

I learned a lot from FBRef. Just like I did when sites started aggregating interesting, advanced baseball stats. You can never stop learning about the sports you love, with continued watching (we all use the eye test, most of the time!), curiosity and, yes, the stuff data nerds traffic in. Big loss.

sort of botched that then just put his hoof through it

That's a call Gyokeres hasn't gotten in the PL much.

That's rapid from Jesus, to pick up that pass meant for Saka.

I am concerned about Kai Havertz. I don't know why 30 minutes isn't doable here.

If he doesn't come on at all it will bother me a lot.

Another question after reading about our attack/lineup here (having not seen the 1H): how much of our success is down to personnel, how much is down to how Inter is set up?

If PL teams played like Inter did in the first half would we have joy, even with other players?

Just tuning in. How has Eze been?

The Nwaneri news is both good and really disappointing.

We have a game against a European giant in a big competition and weirdly all I want is to get through it with the players healthy and to not come home with key guys overtaxed. And for Kai to increase his workload a bit so that we know he’s closer to being the guy.

That’s it. Those are the goals.

This certainly is one way for the Times to frame the the intent of the VRA.

What the absolute fuck.

This some serious shithousing.

This is a very good case for those who want VAR out of the game (not me). Absent VAR this game is over, and people might be aggrieved (over either call) but it would be over and all this nonsense wouldn’t have happened and tinged the result the way it will.

City lose, Villa lose.

Arsenal fail to capitalize…enough.

That’s the story, for some?

Such people are *starving* for a story.

If we missed an opportunity by drawing what did a team that lost do?
January 18, 2026 at 2:43 PM
We were drawn late to Sunderland, where would our heads go.

We drew 10 man Chelsea, where would our heads go.

We lost last second to Villa, where would our heads go.

We barely beat Wolves, where would our heads go.

In first by 7 (for now) and big accounts are feeding the negativity.

No interest in policing how people respond to games that don’t go our way, and things ARE stressful. But I also find this overarching tenor of posts, from someone who seems smart enough to know the big picture, weird.

Does DeWalt advertise with Wolves because they have the same colorway or because people in Wolverhampton are prominent buyers of power tools?
January 18, 2026 at 3:31 PM
Setting Villa aside for the moment, yesterday City fell further behind in the title race and missed a chance to apply a lot of pressure on us. They chucked away a big opening, even before we played.

That’s not “glass half full” stuff.

That’s the actual truth.

If we continue to play games where we are very, very likely to score and our opponents are very, very unlikely to score we should be ok.*

I will take my chances with that dynamic.

*repeat use of “very” is intentional here.

For context
Looks like MD26 is when the Invincibles first reached a seven point lead over second place.
