Lessons from 4 case studies and recommendations 👇🏽
Key takeaways:

- The provider and their communication in the conversation around PREP has a significant impact on how women navigate their PrEP needs

- Shifting language from risk-based to reason-based
A presentation from #PositiveEast’s Maxine Sabackic “Investigating the influence of healthcare provider communication and language reframing on HIV PrEP uptake among Black African and Caribbean women”
@ukhsa.bsky.social’s Natasha Ratna presenting on current #PrEP trends.

A key question asked: “How are we defining PrEP need?”

Is our current definition too rigid and our data collection not comprehensive enough to adequately paint the picture of PrEP need across marginalised communities?
We are in Birmingham today with #HIVPreventionEngland for our joint event “Improving PrEP Access Among Marginalised Communities”!

The day is packed with some great presentations, research, and community insights which we’ll be sharing today. @tht.org.uk
We hope these insights will shape not just future policy, but better care for Black people living with HIV now.

The findings are clear:
⚠️ Stigma is pervasive
🔒 Confidentiality concerns
⚕️ Low confidence in primary care while our services struggle with little resources to provide the best quality care

All remain key barriers for Black people living with #HIV in London.
This week, OVN and @nat.org.uk hosted a launch event for our report: “Understanding the challenges of Black people living with HIV accessing primary care”, part of our joint #UnheardVoices project.

Thank you to our attendees; it was incredible to have you engage and support this vital work.🧵
We attended today’s @nat.org.uk-#HIVOutcomesUK- @appghiv.bsky.social event launching their report on the state of HIV VCSE sector.

So proud of #UnheardVoices and the recommendations we offer to stakeholders across the health care spectrum.

There’s no simple solution to fee systemic issues + the other concerns respondents shared with us. We must be ready to work together for our community members living with #HIV!
Black people living with HIV still face barriers in #primarycare, from stigmatising experiences to digital exclusion.

The #UnheardVoices report highlights these issues—and how we can build a more equitable system.
