They most certainly are not just mean people. That's just shifting "mean" to the right.

They possibly have no self-respect, or some other element necessary to human flourishing. But real mean people, who are just mean, don't do what ICE et al. are doing.

They mostly run apartments buildings on one side of the main N/S artery a couple blocks away.

The local grocer's has stacks of goods dirt cheap from Bosnia and neighboring areas in Europe, but most everything else costs a fortune.

It's not Sicilian, but it must work. Been like this forever.

To be serious though, I truly hope a lot of people are super mad this holiday season when they can't afford a $569 toaster that was $40 last week.

Well it's not like we have a dysfunctional Congress, we simply don't have a Congress at all.

The majority in both the House and also the Senate has ceded its authority to the executive branch.

Congress is just for show.

Where I live, there's a dinky Bosnian mafia. Everything in cash, everything off the books, everything off the back of trucks.

I don't want protection agencies and tribute, but I do want a parallel economy completely divorced from the US govt's "official" economy.

They're in my 'hood now and the corner they targeted has a Little Cesar's, a Hispanic restaurant, a green coop grocery, tamale guy (they pinched him but let him go), and some bodega-type stores. There's a McDonald's down the street but too far for them to walk.

Little Cesar's ain't gonna close.
