Haha!! That's so great. It looks like they are directing the shoot. I'm on the GC of Oz now actually, Saw a kookaburra on my walk with my father-in-law yesterday. They are quite interesting in their own right aren't they?
Agreed. Canada 🇨🇦❤️. Canadians ❤️❤️➕️➕️.
Adding this to my list for my next visit to Mexico!
I like Canadiano better! 😂 My niece just started university in Canada and is having a hard time making friends as an American. 😞
It's a strange feeling, walking into a room and sensing you've been summed up before you've even spoken. A feeling that a label has arrived before you have. This is the theme I'm exploring for the new Open Road Adventures essay, which will be out this Thursday.

Stunning. Oregon is an amazing and magical place. Proud to call it home.
Waking up to the news of Diane Keaton's passing is heartbreaking. With a career that began in 1970 and shaped a generation, her work became a quiet soundtrack for so many of us.

A profound, irreplaceable loss. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.

This story is about that exchange. I'd love to hear your thoughts. When has a journey given you back more than it took?

I traded a Saturday and 13 hours in the air for family conversations that will last a lifetime.

It's a profound feeling to realize what you've gained, not what you've lost.
The Day We Missed
There’s an unspoken agreement on the thirteen-hour flight from San Francisco to Brisbane.

Since a was a kid growing up in the Midwest i was always drawn to the sea and to mountains. No surprise I ended up in Oregon. What's your favorite part?
I boarded a flight on the 26th and landed on the 28th. An entire day, completely vanished.

Tomorrow, I’m sharing the full story of where that Saturday went, and what it was traded for.

Incredible how fast they fixed that. Says a lot about the host, but I'm guessing it also says a lot about how you both handled it. A little grace under pressure goes a long way in situations like that.

This is pure peace right here. A perfect little corner of the world to just sit and be. Thanks for sharing this moment of serenity.

That's a heavy and necessary question for our times, John. It's the core struggle, isn't it? How to embrace helpful tools without letting them erase the essential parts of ourselves. I'm saving this to read.

What's the most memorable animal encounter you've had on your travels?

Becoming a temporary landing pad for a flock of lorikeets in Australia is definitely high on my list.

I'd love to hear your story.

Nope. I can't even process this. The world simply cannot afford to lose a single drop of Dolly's light. Just... no.

Whoa, that's an adventure you definitely didn't plan for! So glad to hear you both are okay and that the host responded so quickly. It just goes to show you never know what the road (or the roof!) will throw your way.

It often feels like dogs are giving us a masterclass in loyalty, forgiveness, and living in the moment. They're the best kinds of teachers.

The silent negotiation for attention.

Chase's roles: co-pilot, navigator, & demanding grand-dog. A reminder that adventure is also in the quiet connections we keep.

Does your pet have a special bond with a family member?

You've nailed it—it's such a physical feeling. I've learned that forcing myself to stay awake until a normal bedtime on arrival day, no matter how tired I am, helps my body catch up to the new timezone much faster.

Have you ever 'lost' a day to travel?

Crossing the international date line feels like a glitch in reality and gets you thinking about time itself.

What's the longest journey you've ever taken, and how did it mess with your perception of time?

The contrast in option 2 (the middle one) is stunning.
