In ancient Rome, most of the workers lived in single rooms in apartment blocks with no cooking facilities or bathrooms. Using communal baths and buying 'street food' was common.

Schools. Currently full of kids with stomach pains, vomiting, dizziness - just like the beginning of the first wave - yet we're collectively pretending it's nothing and pushing the government's attendance directive. Zero recognition that covid harms children at all (organs, brain, POTS, exhaustion.)

If they know they must do an exam which they feel almost certain to fail. If they need a long time to embed new concepts and retain information, the enormous GCSE curriculum is an insurmountable barricade. They don't need everything in GCSE to be numerate enough for work & personal finance matters.

There are alternatives such as Functional Skills or the Edexcel Awards in Number and Measure and in Algebra. These build confidence and give employers a clear picture of what the student CAN do, rather than what they can't. The obsession with GCSE Mathematics for all is harmful to many young people.

The frogs are breeding in Portland. Along with the unicorns, the axolotls...

Diversity defiantly flourishing in spite of the ICE age.

Things are happening at Portland's ICE facility tonight.

And if they achieved that goal, they would set their sights on the next country to target.

Europe should have given more support much sooner. Appeasement is never going to work with Putin.

Losing gives him a chance to rant about (imaginary) corruption and then use it to try and get everyone sacked who won't back him by going against the law and the US constitution.

SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE HEADLINE.

A woman making a fantastic achievement, and they make the failures of a man the focus. FFS.

He was absolutely drenched and looked utterly pathetic but was happy as Larry. So when I put his cage back I decided he needed a nice warm breeze to dry off - from the hairdryer (on cool, from a safe distance.) He came over and started fluffing himself while singing away.

I had a budgie when I was a kid. One day I decided the easiest way to clean his large cage was to just put it in the bath (minus the bottom tray) and shower it. I nudged him to one end of a perch and started showering the other end of the cage and he rushed straight under it!

The trouble is, Labour benefit too much from FPTP. They won't risk giving it up.

Infuriating. I had Covid badly in the first wave; it made my asthma worse. Can't get the Covid jab, can get the flu jab - because of my asthma.
operabunny.bsky.social
I have asthma that has needed steroid treatment within the last 6 months, plus had Covid really badly in the first wave and work in a school. No NHS Covid jab for me.

How do they reason that someone is vulnerable enough to need the flu jab but not vulnerable enough to need the Covid jab?

Boomer? Not even close. Tail end Gen X, borderline Gen Y.
operabunny.bsky.social
I found a support network of other Covid survivors struggling with a host of ongoing medical problems, early in the pandemic, before the medical community even considered long covid might exist, when we were being gaslit left, right and centre by governments, medical establishments and politicians.

I would definitely say one of the most vile, though.

They could start submitting their 4187 forms in large numbers, though. That in itself would get the message across.

The NHS already concluded that aerosol inhalers make up a significant chunk of their CO2 production. In 2024 they launched a recycling scheme for them. They've also been moving away from single medication aerosols to combined treatment DPIs (direct powder inhalers).

Just because they're not the WORST source of pollution, doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't try and improve where we can without it risking our health.

I switched to a combined DPI and it's much more effective than my previous blue (Ventolin) inhaler.

I'm in the UK and I can just take these to the solid plastic section of the household waste recyling centre. The NHS also have a recycling campaign for inhalers, including the blue and brown ones.
FOSTAIR NEXThaler combined 'direct powder inhalation' inhaler containing beclometasone and formoterol. The case is bright pink and white and has a remaining doses counter on the side.

One thing that increased the use of inhalers was allowing mass Covid infection, which frequently makes asthma worse.
