Excited to share our new pre-print. Direct, ensemble FRET assays developed by our lab reveal that assembly of Rad51 filaments at stalled replication sites via RPA/Rad51 exchange causes complete & irreversible PCNA unloading. Big implications for interplay between human DNA damage tolerance pathways

By attacking science:

We are less safe because science informs national security and medical care.

We are less prosperous because science drives innovation and economic benefit.

We are less free because science and democracy depend on the liberty to ask questions, and seek and share knowledge.

One more bioRxiv update (v3) on MDC1 and DNA repair dysfunction in #lobular breast cancer:

We worked w @foundationmedicine.bsky.social to see whether ILC mutations manifest as repair 'loss of function', and tumor genomes say... nope :). The ILC phenotype is unique!
Co-regulator activity of Mediator of DNA Damage Checkpoint 1 (MDC1) is associated with DNA repair dysfunction and PARP inhibitor sensitivity in lobular carcinoma of the breast
Invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast (ILC) is typically estrogen receptor α (ER)-positive and presents with biomarkers of anti-estrogen sensitive disease, yet patients with ILC face particularly p...

Annika rightfully points out that though this is positive, this is going to SERIOUSLY burden an NIH staff that is actively being further depleted.

Be nice to your SROs, POs, and GMSs, folks...
Yay: Most postponed study sections have been rescheduled at this point.

Yikes: To do this, CSR has scheduled *289* study sections from 03/24-05/16/2025. For comparison, there were only 96 study sections from 3/24-5/17/2024. And NIH still plans to RIF more staff. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
