⚠️Portland’s CEI Hub supplies 90% of Oregon’s liquid fuel and sits on earthquake-vulnerable soil. The City’s Oct 1 (tonight!) info session (5:30–7 PM) discusses alternatives—but only Alt 4 begins to address the risk.

On August 6th, Oregon PSR Advisory Board member Chisao Hata performed her original poem “Since Then” at the Hiroshima & Nagasaki memorial. A powerful reminder that art has always been a critical part of our movement for peace. (2/2)

Let us Imagine into reality.....
Let us sweat and cry a change
Let us hold hands and make it so.

Breathe 3x

Since Then.......

80 years from now

We worked fearlessly together
Our air is clean
Our water pure and free
Our children happy and safe
80 years from now
We will say.....
We climbed together
And built together
Through sweat while
Holding love and each other
80 years from now
Our Native lands renewed
Histories and contributions
Of people of color
Acknowledged and celebrated 80 years from now
Where will you be? Where will we be?
Can we begin now???

Breathe 3x

Hold silence together

Since Then
Written by Chisao Hata
As performed by Chisao Hata at Never Again: Art Speaks Where Words Fail - Art's Enduring Protest 80 Years Later Breathe in air
That sustains our lives
Breathe in this day
As we come together
Breathe in humanity
As we remember those who walked with us and those
who came before us.

62 years ago women came together
For the first Portland Hiroshima Day
Together they walked 9 miles
The perimeter of the A-bomb
Walking in sorrow
And in hope
Crying Peace is our shelter

We continue their legacy
We continue today to pray and breathe hope
We Continue today to pray and breathe......action.

Breathe 3x Since then........
The atomic child was born
War, hate, and racism
Drove the war machine
To kill
To destroy
And we
Forgot the sacredness of life.
Soon
Those who lived through
Pain and loss
Grief and trauma
The memories and stories of survivors
Of WWII
Will no longer be spoken
Living memories will be gone
Only our renditions of history will remain
How will we continue to tell the stories?

Breathe 3x Since Then........

We have been fighting
To hold on
To be heard
Included
Seen.
Fear and fascism
Violence and vengeance
Rear their heads
And greed reigns
Wars and more wars
Death and more death
Pain and more pain
Today's trauma of
loss and destruction
Create yet another generation of death
And global survivors cradling destruction.
Can we collectively combine
Our strength
Our pain
To shift to push
To collectively scream
our paradigm
AND tip the tipping point

The nuclear arms race is back — we can stop it.
Congress has two new resolutions (S. Res. 323 & H. Res. 317) that would push the U.S. to adopt no-first-use, end “hair-trigger” alert, & lead the world toward disarmament.
Merkley and Bonamici are in. Let’s get all of Oregon’s delegation there, too.

Big Oil knew their business would fuel events like the disastrous 2021 Pacific Northwest heat dome — but chose to lie instead of help save lives.

“It’s really sad that they knew, and now we are experiencing those consequences,” said Samantha Hernandez of @oregonpsr.bsky.social.

We need your help. Lawmakers are considering adding another $10 million for Oregon’s Resilience Hubs and Networks. This funding could be lifesaving in the face of worsening ice storms, heat waves, wildfires, and wildfire smoke. Will you email lawmakers urging them to fund Community Resilience Hubs?
oregonpsr.bsky.social
OR Lawmakers have made the impacts of the tariffs and funding cuts coming from Washington clear through their budget projection. During this time of uncertainty we must ensure that we build resilient communities that can weather the proverbial and literal storms coming our way.
