Oh hello new followers. Some quick basics about me I guess.
I read a lot. I don’t promote problematic authors. I read diversely. Audio books are reading. Reading is political. I read many different genres. I enjoy spice. I’ll probably post sporadically and sometimes it’ll be about my pets.
I finished Year of the Reaper. This was another book where I guessed the twist fairly quickly but I didn't care. I enjoyed the setting, the politics and the giant cats. A good fantasy standalone. #booksky

I finished The Sum of Us. This book lays out that ways that racist policies hurt everyone and how we are stronger together. It was an amazing read. If you pick up one books I've recommended this year let it be this one. #booksky

I finished Voyage of the Damned. When the children of gods have to solve a murder on a boat. Did a guess the ending almost immediately? Yes. Was it fun anyway? Also yes. A fun cast of characters and lots of adventure. #booksky

I finished the Daughters of Ys. I really enjoyed this tale of two sisters, the weight of responsibility, and the price of power. The art is stunning and has a beautiful movement to it. #booksky

I finished Witchcraft. This was a fascinating look at how the idea of being a witch has been weaponized over centuries. I really enjoyed how the book was organized and for it very informative. #booksky

I finished A Field Guide to Mermaids. This book is filled with stunning art and fascinating facts about North American waterways. Science and fantasy in a perfect combo. This would be great to read with kids. #booksky

I finished The Lion Women of Tehran. I absolutely loved this beautiful story of the friendship between two women growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. One of my favorite reads of the year. #booksky

I finished How to Be An Antiracist. This was an incredibly informative read and one I would consider foundational to anyone working on their anti-racism. There's also an accompanying workbook. #booksky

I finished a Little Devil in America. I loved this tribute to Black performance. It's an important look at the incredible influence that Black performers have had on artistry and culture. Just a great read. #booksky

I finished Long Game. What a good sequel. I'd read more. I don't think I could ever get sick of these characters. Holiday epilogue novella maybe? A girl can dream. #booksky

I finished Sleep Like Death. While this one didn't have the same impact for me as Cinderella is Dead the FMC was a total badass. I really enjoyed her and the fun twist on Snow White. I just adore fairytale retellings. #booksky

I finished the Raven Scholar. I enjoy good political machinations and the characters were interesting if a bit trope-heavy. I did find that some sections dragged a bit and it didn't feel like some of the conflict was fully flushed out but I'm excited to see where the series goes. #booksky

I finished Heated Rivalry. I read the entire thing in a day. It just really pulled me in. I loved the banter and the slow build of the relationship. I normally would never read a series out of order but I'm glad I made an exception for this. #booksky

Seriously. What drugs did they put in Heated Rivals. I just binged the book and the first two episodes. Do I just binge the rest of the series now while waiting for new episodes? How did I get so obsessed with a sports romance? I don't even like hockey! #booksky problems.

Hey Chicago! The proposed 2026 city budget reduces the funds for our libraries by 50%, the lowest for a city this size. This is unacceptable. Libraries provide resources and programs that are critical and ours deserve to be fairly funded! Call your alderperson and say no! #chicago #library #booksky

I finished Servant of Earth. I'm such a sucker for deadly trials. I really enjoyed this. It felt like a unique take on the trope and I liked the politics and scheming. Kind of predictable but in a fun way. No do I read the second one of wait for the completed series? #booksky

I finished Beasts and Beauty. This was a really fun collection of retold fairy tales. Lots of twists I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting to. #booksky

Ok. How many audiobooks should I check out from the library before leaving on my two week holiday? #booksky problems.

I love when a book or movie throws the title into dialog at some point. But there is such a thing as overkill so I will also DNF your book when you make over a dozen references to the title within the first 100 pages. #booksky problems.

Libby what's up? It's said about two weeks for over a month now. I just want my spook season book please.

I finished A Harvest of Hearts. It definitely lived up to the promised Howls Moving Castle vibes. I really enjoyed it. I liked the FMC and following her story was lovely and I thought the magic system was unique. #booksky

Couldn't make it to a protest today but I did find a book to add to my resistance library collection. #booksky

I finished Rebel Witch. I enjoyed the first book in this duology but the second just didn't do it for me and I don't really have a good reason why. Maybe I just read them too far apart? There were definitely some pacing issues. I feel like they would have been better read back to back. #booksky

I finished Enter the Body. Overall I enjoyed this reclaiming of some of Shakespeare's most tragic tales for the ladies who suffer for the story but I do think a greater knowledge of the bard's work would have helped me out. #booksky

I finished The Bewitching. I loved this creepy atmospheric story of history and magic. The setting was lush and I'm a big sucker for stories told in an epistolary style and I really enjoyed its use here. The twists were good too. #booksky
