We can make adoption more accessible, affordable, and supportive. We can protect families from scams and bureaucracy. We can fund the services kids need. Because in America, every child deserves a loving family, and that's worth fighting for. 🇺🇸

To the families who've opened their hearts through adoption: you are amazing! To the birth parents who made difficult decisions out of love, your sacrifice matters. To the kids building their lives with forever families: you belong, and your stories are so important. 🙏
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Adoption is about giving kids permanent, loving homes. It's about healing, hope, and second chances. Whether someone chooses adoption, chooses to parent, or needs family support, ALL those choices deserve our collective respect and support.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
I don't like to tell people what to joke about (joke police), but talking to adoption advocates has really opened my eyes to this and I think about it much differently now. 👍
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Let's talk about something else: adoption stigma hurts kids. When adoption becomes the punchline of jokes (i.e. "He's adopted!" said as a joke), we're telling kids their families aren't "real." Every family formed through love is a real family, and every kid deserves to feel proud of their story.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
NCFA increases public awareness and understanding of adoption and promotes positive adoption language. We should fund more of these services so every child gets the help they need, regardless of family income.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Right here in Nebraska, organizations like NCHS (been doing this since 1893!) are doing incredible work through their "Families Forever" program. Nationally, groups like NAC help kids with special needs and C.A.S.E. provides trauma-informed therapy.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Here's something critical: adopted kids often need trauma-informed care right away. Many have experienced early adversity, and early intervention makes ALL the difference. But too many families can't afford the specialized counseling and support these kids need.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Adoption is complex, and families need real support, NOT endless red tape. We should streamline the process while keeping kids safe. Nobody should need a law degree to navigate adoption paperwork.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
We need Congress to pass the ADOPT Act to crack down on these predators. No more unlicensed operators taking advantage of families. When you're already emotionally vulnerable & financially stretched, the last thing you need is some con artist stealing hope. Adoption should bring hope, not heartbreak
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Another hurdle: scammers preying on families desperate to adopt. Unlicensed “facilitators” charge tens of thousands, make false promises, then disappear. The FTC has identified dozens of these bad actors in recent years. Families lose their savings and their dreams.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
The adoption tax credit helps, but it's not refundable. That means if you don’t owe enough in taxes you don't get the full benefit. Teachers, nurses, and mechanics-the very families we should be supporting- lose out! I'll fight to make it fully refundable.
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
You may not realize this, but the biggest barrier to adoption is the COST. Right now, private adoption averages $33,000! That’s nearly half of the typical Nebraska household’s yearly income. For many working families with so much love to give, that price tag is out of reach. .
November 22, 2025 at 5:40 PM
Today is #NationalAdoptionDay! To commemorate, I wanted to use my platform to raise awareness about adoption, and some of the challenges surrounding adoption because EVERY child deserves a family, and every loving family should have the chance to grow. 🧵

Tyson CEO Donnie King made $22.7 million last year.

The week before Thanksgiving, he told 3,200 workers in Lexington, Nebraska that they're losing their jobs.
November 22, 2025 at 3:56 PM
Over 2,500 employees will be affected by this decision and Tyson Foods must ensure employees are offered severance for a layoff occurring just days before Thanksgiving.

I was just in Lexington in September. The importance of this plant came up in my conversations with residents many times over. These are hard working people who deserve our support & I will work in the coming weeks to understand how we arrived at this situation.
Tyson announces plan to close plant in Lexington
Tyson Foods announced Friday that it will close its beef plant in Lexington, a move that will put hundreds of people out of jobs in the central Nebraska community.

Public schools are the bedrock of our communities, especially in rural areas, and I will be a fierce champion and defender for public education in the United States Senate.

Nebraska deserves a Senator who will fight for victims, not protect rich and powerful people who hurt them. Exposing child predators should never be a low priority, and a real leader wouldn't need a pressure campaign to do the right thing.

Two months ago, Pete Ricketts voted AGAINST releasing the Epstein files.

When a Nebraska news station asked Ricketts about the Epstein situation, he said it was a low priority. 👇
November 19, 2025 at 2:25 AM
Ricketts learned that Nebraskans won't let him protect billionaires over victims. Keep the pressure on everyone. He may still try to wiggle out of this if he can, so don’t let him.
