Oops! I knew of the need for caution when cutting up beets, but I didn't think of it when I was chopping purple cabbage. A scrub brush has lightened the stains but I'm still a little blue. 😂

The amethyst heart has joined a small collection of heart shaped objects given to me by people who love me. I am wearing the clear crystal which fits perfectly in my silver basket necklace. The Kitsune figure is beautiful! The amethyst spheres are fascinating. I love Piglet and Mr. C loves Tigger and is bouncing around singing "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers." My adorable husband, knowing of my love for Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld, made me a breakfast this morning inspired by The World Turtle, The Great A'Tuin. 🐢 He apologized that he couldn't get the disc (egg) quite round. I was too much delighted by the cute bacon tail to care about that.

Text: You may have seen my posts about working my way through The Granny Square Card Deck. I learned pretty early on that my set was a knock-off. Don't blame Mr. C. I actually placed the order. Blame Amazon for not properly vetting their vendors. This week's square nearly did my head in as both the chart on the card and the written instructions in the booklet were incomplete. I have since learned that the patterns weren't even based on the original Granny Square Card Deck. They were all stolen from 'The Untimate Granny Square Source Book' which I have now acquired. I will still complete the squares shown on the cards I have but will use the book for instruction. So, buyer beware! If you want to purchase a set Ike this, get it from a reputable book store. The First Window. The grammar school in Old Fox's village was very old, established by a rich Flemish merchant in 1515. Hare's schoolroom was in the original building, and it had a very elaborately carved fireplace, in which a lovely fire roared throughout the winter months. Every morning in December, he would gather his class around the hearth, each choosing a warm woollen blanket from the oak chest under the windows, and read to them from Dickens or Hardy or the Brontës. Afterwards, Hare brewed a great pot of tea, and they made toast over the fire with long toasting forks. Those mornings were remembered by Hare's pupils for the rest of their lives. For some, that toast, slathered with creamy Dorset butter and sweet plum jam, would be their best meal of the day, ebbing the endless gnawing hunger which accompanied so many lives in those early years of the 1930s.

Mr. C took a bike ride into the village to take some glass and paper to the recycling bins. He came back with some lovely pictures of the Christmas decorations. The first raises a few questions though.

Text: Update on us 20:48 hrs A chilly but brighter day spent indoors apart from feeding Limonaid and Little Goat. I also topped up their water trough which hadn't frozen over for the first time in days. I slept most of the afternoon away which was fine because we had nothing pressing to do. I was up in time to make chips to accompany Fair Damsel's homemade KFC spiced chicken tenders and courgettes. They went down a treat with a tasty mug o' tea and an episode of Jeeves and Wooster.
