Excellent warming up today - just read it and laughed out loud. There. Something nice in the world.

Followed closely by Wally Banter. Not in a bad way.

Hancock gets a mention in Simon Russell Beale’s autobiography, A Piece of Work

Yes! No narrative or rupees/ groupies rhymes, just shimmering personal love

Also Famous Groupies, cafe on the left bank…

It’s probably the album that most clearly highlights the problem with his lyrics - musically Morse Moose is outstanding but the subject matter… I wonder how Maxwell with Lennon aided lyrics might have turned out

London Town… that’s under appreciated, right?

Just finished You Never Give Me Your Money - impressive to see how McCartney reclaimed the narrative, even as late as the video you’ve posted (post divorce?) So … what book next?!

What a track and album - superb call

Thank you, you beautiful man. I don’t think you quite know how much each new episode improves life
ottopollock.bsky.social
Nope! Will seek it out, thank you!

Ok, finished Dreaming the Beatles - where next?!

I can’t even see that there might be a tactical (if misguided) reason for their response - it’s just clearly wrong and a fail. What’s going on?

You’ve done the right thing - amazing how far we are drifting

Wish I could come - trains are fucked. Look forward to the audio drop

One question I would have - he says Blackbird was written as a social protest song. That always strikes me as a revisionist view, there’s no evidence at the time of that is there? That’s not how Paul’s writing works
ottopollock.bsky.social
Well…Dreaming the Beatles continues to be extraordinary - thank you for the recommendation. The chapter on Paul’s My Love is superb. Brilliant reading someone who has thought quite so deeply
ottopollock.bsky.social
Oh well. To be fair he’s taking on a hugely documented band and didn’t (IMO) bring anything much new - his other books are better

Yes, thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you. Have you reached out to Craig Brown re 1,2,3,4?

Wow! What a book! The “I call your name” chapter makes links all over the place, rearranging known facts into a beautiful new kaleidoscope 👏👏👏 top recommendation
