The Insurrection Act of 1807 was originally passed to empower the federal government to respond to these types of domestic uprisings.

A student of history might recognize how U.S. emergency powers—broad, fast-acting, and lightly checked—echo Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution.

Hitler used it to bypass a complicit Reichstag and dismantle a democracy.

The U.S. framework could be similarly exploited by an unreliable president.
