Summary:

When the burning aftertaste began to fade away, Xichen assumed that it was the water's doing. But when he turned to face Wangji, prepared to tell him that everything was fine, Xichen's world tilted. He fell over, barely managing to steady himself on the counter. Horror dawned upon him as he realized, unable to keep up with the room's spinning, that he fucked up.

The realization was accompanied by the sound of the doorbell. Wei Wuxian and Wangji both stared at Xichen with wide eyes. Before him lay two options:

1. He could tell Mingjue he wasn't feeling well—which would mean cancelling their long-awaited first date.

Or

2. He could proceed with the date as if everything was normal.

Bowing farewell, Xichen attempts to mount his sword…

And face-plants.

Fuck.

"Oh, shi— Are you okay?" As if Xichen hasn't been sufficiently humiliated, the Nie Sect leader, who just so happens to be one of the most attractive men Xichen has ever encountered, rushes to his side, helpfully offering a hand.

Xichen wants to die. His face feels hot, and the handsome face peering down at him in concern is a bit blurry around the edges. What a way to make a first impression.

Taking the offered hand, Xichen attempts to dust off his robes as he stands. There's a splotch of mud that can't be wiped away, and it's kind of shaped like one of the bunnies back at home. This, for some reason, strikes Xichen as incredibly funny, and he can't suppress the bubble of laughter that escapes him, followed by a hiccup.

"Lan-zongzhu…" Nie-zongzhu's brow furrows. "Are you drunk?"

Xichen bought the wine on a whim as he was leaving the city. At this point, he had tried meditation, diversion, isolation, and being around others—and it was all the same. So, he might as well try something different.

Hiding it in his robes, he did his best to smile and hold himself together as he passed a few sect disciples while he hurried back to his abode. Now, he takes the jug out of his sleeve and stares at it plaintively. Perhaps he will find more answers within the vessel than he finds in its exterior.
