Hello new followers! Here's one of my favorite older comics.
A four-panel comic called Instinct is Weird. In panel 1, a yellow warbler looks at a beautiful nest in a shrub and says "I made this for some reason". In panel 2, there are five eggs in the nest and she says "these are my smooth round children". In panel 3 an egg has hatched into a yelling hatchling, and she says "Oh no now it's loud". In panel 4 she looks distressed as five hatchlings now fill the nest, begging for food, and she says "help".

⛰️ If you spot this week's Bird of the Week in open páramo (alpine grasslands) & shrubby areas in the Andean Mountains, it may appear plain, feathered in shades of brown & cinnamon. 🪶 But, seen from the back, Shining Sunbeam dazzle with iridescent shades of purple, green, & gold. 🤩
Scientific Name: Aglaeactis cupripennis Population: Unknown Trend: Presumed stable Habitat: High-altitude páramo (alpine grasslands), treelines, and shrubby areas.

In panel 3, there's "Reason 1: Some birds, like orioles, nest in tree branches, so they weave elaborate structures that can withstand the elements..." And there's a female Baltimore Oriole weaving an elaborate hanging nest in a silver maple tree. In panel 4, "...but rock pigeons evolved to nest in crevices in cliffs, safely tucked away." And there's a pigeon sitting on a nest in a hole in a cliff. In panel 5, "Reason 2: People domesticated pigeons ages ago. Pigeons didn't need fancy nests because they had human-built homes." A beautiful dovecote shelters a flock of pigeons. In panel 6, "Reason 3: Less time making nest = more time eating seed." A pigeon pecks a seed near its nest, and says "It's called math."

The trench coat was popularized by the likes of Humphrey Bogart in 'Casablanca', but originally developed (and named) in WWI.

The trench coat was a waterproof, lined version of the British greatcoat, sold to officers to protect them from cold & wet trench environments, worn over the British 'Warm'.
Humphrey Bogart slouches in his khaki overcoat in a black and white photo. He holds his hand clasped in front of him, as if holding a cigarette, and his hat shades his eyes, so that only one is visible. He's looking to our right. He has that classic roguish charm: an impassive face and alert eyes.

Just finished Comviction Arc

Heres my ranking of the Arcs so far...
Glden Age is the best so far
Followed by Conviction arc
Which barely squeaks out better than Black Swordsman arc.

I'm excited to start the Falcon of the Millennium Empire arc but have some errands to run today!

Why do we call these birds "turkeys"?

Add this to the list of "European explorers are bad at naming things". EVERYTHING new was "turkish" because of rising cultural influence of the Turkish (Ottoman) Empire.

Corn: "Turkish wheat"
Pumpkins: "Turkish cucumbers"

And that's how you get Turkey-cock.

Currently reading the chapter Shadows of an Idea Pt 1, towards the end of the Conviction arc... Mozgus is really cool, I liked the plague doctor disciple. We stan. I am having flashbacks to Golden Age and am scared for what is to come. In a word, "Haunting."
