REACTION: Oxfam is deeply concerned by the outcomes of the #G7Summit.

At a time when urgent global crises demand bold and united action, the summit fell short of delivering the leadership the world needs.

Hard work = wealth? That’s a myth. Oxfam’s new report reveals how billionaire wealth is often unearned fuelled by inheritance, nepotism & monopoly power. With the biggest generational wealth transfer in history on the horizon—barely taxed—it's time to rethink what’s fair #TaxTheRich #FightInequality
While billionaires multiply in the Global South, inequality deepens—a stark legacy of colonialism. For millions, their labour enriches the North's elite or the Southern super-rich. 2025 is a critical moment to #TaxTheRich and #FightInequality for an economy that serves all. 🌍✊ #TakersNotMakers
The richest 1% in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East capture 20% of all income—almost twice the share of Europe’s top 1%. Global South continues to be home to the world's most unequal countries. Solution is simple: #TaxtheRich. The world's elite at #WEF in #Davos are you listening? #FightInequality
Through panel sessions, group work, and strategy discussions,  they identified key entry points to influence regional and national economic policies. The convening was organized by Oxfam in Asia, the International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs) and Chulalongkorn University
The participants discussed alternatives to neoliberal economic models, critically assessed the limitations of GDP and explored new frameworks that prioritize equality, sustainability, and decolonial and feminist values.
Development economists and activists from across 10 Asian countries convened in Bangkok a convening on Beyond GDP and against neoliberalism.
They continue to demand capital contribution leading to an unequal never-ending cycle of growth. It’s time to wake up, make the rich polluters pay and #MakeClimateFinanceWorkForAsia.

Asia’s current situation in the climate context is an example that speaks volumes. Rich polluters have left some countries in Asia devastated, depleting their labour and resources in the name of progress.
COP29 remarks three decades of working towards rehabilitating climate for our future generations.

The recently signed $300 billion deal is raised for our entire planet, let alone for Asia. This number is insufficient to cope or even barely survive through the present climate atrocities.
And yet, even after understanding climate finance in the context of everyday life, we still refuse to support those who demand for justice for developing Asia.
Only because we believe that climate change is an issue we can deal with tomorrow. #MakeClimateFinanceWorkForAsia #MakeRichPollutersPay
8/ Despite COP29’s failure, the fight for climate justice continues. Activists and civil society stand firm in challenging inequality and corporate influence. The battle isn’t over. Read the piece thewire.in/environment/...
COP29 Betrays Asia: Why it's a Climate Pact Without Justice
There is no accountability for commitments.

7/ Rich nations framed the pact as an “investment opportunity” rather than fulfilling their obligations. Climate finance without accountability undermines Asia’s resilience.
6/ The pact relies on Multilateral Development Banks, notorious for inflating climate finance figures and prioritizing loans over grants. These colonial structures keep resources out of reach for those most affected.
