Always add alt text to images that you share on social media.

Alt text is a short description that tells people what is in the image.
It helps people who use screen readers understand your post.

Alt text should describe the image clearly and briefly.

Good: A photo of three Black and disabled friends (a non-binary person with a cane and tangle stim toy, a non-binary person sitting in a power wheelchair, and an invisibly disabled femme) smiling and taking a cell phone selfie together.
The good alt text is also the image description for the image used in the graphic.

What is the disability community saying about the ADA, 35 years later?

People are celebrating access, mobility, independence, and the civil rights the ADA protects.

The message is clear: we’ve made progress, but there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Everyone should be able to engage with online content.

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires federal digital content to be accessible.

Accessible design is good design. Make sure your content is inclusive, easy to understand, and usable by more people.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a landmark civil rights law passed in 1990.

It protects the rights of people with disabilities and ensures they have equal access to all areas of life.

Now, on the 35th anniversary, we continue to build on that progress.
