We are proud to have signed this open letter calling on Ministers to bin the proposed ban of unhoused whānau from the Tāmaki Makaurau city centre and instead to provide stable housing and access to the public services our communities need to thrive. medium.com/actionstatio...

We agree with Harm Reduction Coalition Aotearoa that it's time to scrap the carceral and unjust Misuse of Drugs Act and replace it with legislation that legalises and regulates all drugs through an approach grounded in affirming human rights and harm reduction. www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...
Harm Reduction Coalition calls for radical drug law reform, government says it's not on the cards
Researchers, advocates and those who've struggled with addiction are renewing appeals for a complete overhaul of the 50-year-old Misuse of Drugs Act.

The cops apology to the woman who was trying to hold former Deputy Police Commissioner Jevon McSkimming accountable rings hollow when they're still prosecuting her. These charges must be dropped immediately. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...

The perfect victim narrative spelled out within policing by the recent IPCA report impacts every aspect of policing and justice under our current model. We need transformative justice where the humanity of each and every person is always front and centre. thespinoff.co.nz/society/13-1...
Jevon McSkimming and the myth of the perfect victim

The cover-up by Police to protect Jevon McSkimming did not happen because of a few bad apples but because the Police are an institution that exists to reproduce patriarchal colonial capitalism in Aotearoa through violence. The only solution is abolition. thespinoff.co.nz/society/13-1...
All the systems that failed in the police’s non-systemic failure
The police commissioner says the handling of serious complaints against Jevon McSkimming wasn’t a ‘systemic failure’. That doesn’t explain all the systems that failed.

*Submissions are open until Wednesday 26 November for the Redress System for Abuse in State Care Bill.* www3.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/mak... One year ago, the government apologised to survivors of abuse in state care but one year on nothing has changed.

The massive cover-up of allegations made against former Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming gets right at key contradictions in policing itself. The police exist in order to maintain social order - but that social order is fundamentally unjust.
November 12, 2025 at 7:00 AM
The IPCA report into the McSkimming cover-up is out and it is absolutely damning. To protect people from abuses by cops and hold the organisation to account, the Crown must implement the IPCA report's recommendations and improve the IPCA's statutory powers.

A young woman contacted the police to tell them Jevon McSkimming, a senior cop, had sexually abused her. Instead of investigating any of her claims, the police executive closed ranks to protect McSkimming and had his accuser charged with harassment. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/jevon-mcs...
Police bosses ignored sex complaints against top cop, charged woman for 'revenge' emails instead
Suppressions fall away to reveal the full story of the downfall of a deputy police boss.

Lisa Woods of @amnesty.org Aotearoa is right: the Government's legislation to ban protesting outside government officials homes is an attack on our right to protest and on our democracy. This bill must be binned immediately. www.stuff.co.nz/politics/360...
Why this one-woman protest outside the PM’s residence could soon be illegal
It’s the PM’s official Wellington residence and it’s funded by taxpayers but soon it could be a crime to protest outside it. Meet the solo protester who doesn’t think that’s fair.
