Thank you to everyone who donated to help our 12 partner indigenous schools have Día del Niño parties! The children had the best time & they deserve the chance to be children!

Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay! Today we celebrate our interns who help protect Paraguay's natural habitats. The studies carried out by these dedicated students provide vital information to develop real conservation strategies. Join us for an internship, apply today at www.paralatierra.org.

Some people may ask what this has to do with environmental education? Children cannot learn if they are freezing. While this doesn’t solve the problem we hope that it helps ease the bite of winter a little. #winter #children #collaboration

So we went to the market in Encarnacion and stocked up on warm hats and gloves. We managed to give out hats and gloves to 100 children across 5 communities - Ka’aguy Poty, Paraíso, Arasa Poty, Y’aka Marangatu and Manduvi’y.

The children in these communities do not have the option of getting the winter clothes out the back of the wardrobe and they really suffer in the cold, wearing the same clothes they do when it’s 40C+, because they have nothing else.

This week we were visiting several of our partner Mbya Guaraní schools to carry natural science lessons when the temperature plummeted to around 6C. Winter had arrived.

This #WildlifeWednesday lets meet one of Paraguay's more rarely encountered creatures, the Marsh Deer. The largest of the Paraguayan deer, it habits wetland areas and flooded grasslands. It can be recognised by its darkened snout and huge ears. Males possess impressive antlers.

Our Executive Director Dr Becca Smith has been awarded a 2nd grant from The Rufford Foundation to expand the reforestation project to a second Mbya Guaraní community; support the education with 12 indigenous schools and help us continue monitoring the fauna of the remaining Atlantic Forest!

Actions like these makes a real difference in the lives of these children and we are so proud to be able to facilitate this generosity and help make things a little better for the community.

This week we took the big boxes of clothes up to the community and made sure that everyone received a wooly hat, warm shirt and some gloves to help them through the brutal winter months that are racing rapidly towards us.

We are sending a huge thank you to Brian and Susan Smith, Hannah Weigand and the students of Erie 1 Boces school in Buffalo and the staff and volunteers of Buffalo Zoo for the very generous donations of winter clothes for the children and adults of Mbya Guaraní Indigenous Community Mberu Pirapo'i.

Many residents alert us to where the monkeys are, where they've seen them passing, and how many they saw. By learning more about the urban monkeys we are looking to find robust measures that can be implemented to improve human-primate coexistence and create a more protected environment for them.
paralatierra.bsky.social
Although it's a sad story, at Para La Tierra we work on studying this species at the ecological, behavioural, and social levels to continue understanding their adaptations to the urban environment.

This #MonkeyMonday let us introduce Captain Morgan. He is the alpha male in the 'Machete' group. Perhaps a somewhat unusual name for a group of monkeys, but it's not by chance. Our alpha is blind in his right eye likely as the result of a machete wound.

#Environmental #education is the most effective way to inspire people to protect #nature. Our flagship education program, Voces de la Naturaleza, is designed to share the value of nature with #Paraguayan youth, changing their attitudes towards the natural environment
