🗣️ How can professionals and the public work together to improve patient safety?

We joined the Patient and Client Council (PCC) for an event exploring just that. The summary paper from the day is now available, capturing key highlights, emerging themes and next steps.

You could be a lifesaver!

As #OrganDonationWeek comes to an end, PCC are reminding you to confirm your decision on the NHS Donor Register, it takes 2 minutes and could save up to 9 lives!

You could be a lifesaver.
If you want to be an organ donor, your family need to know.
Because 90% support organ donation when they know their loved one's decision.
When they're unsure, this drops to just 50%.
So leave them certain.
Take 2 minutes to sign the NHS Organ Donor Register.

IMPACT CARD APRIL - JUNE 2025

PCC Support is our advocacy and support model which focuses on relationship building and a partnership approach, putting the voice of the person at the centre of our work. We use advocacy and mediation skills to work with members of the public and HSC organisations to resolve issues of concern.

The top areas of concern for PCC Support cases in Q1 2025 were:
Treatment and Care Quality
Communication
Professional Assessment of Need
Discharge Arrangements
Staff Attitude

Where possible, the PCC seeks to resolve cases before they become a formal complaint. This process is known as
‘Early Resolution’.

In Q1 we recorded a 61% early resolution rate

749 Calls and emails to PCC Connect Freephone and inbox
374 People given advice and information
86 New Advocacy Cases
51 Cases supported with a Formal Complaint
4 SAI Cases supported
ENGAGEMENT PLATFORM HIGHLIGHT
In Q1 Adult Protection Engagement Platform members met with the Director of Disability and Older People and the Head of Adult Safeguarding Team from the Department of Health to receive an update on the progress of the Adult Protection Bill.

The members, who have an interest or lived experience in this area have been instrumental in shaping parts of the Bill through their lived experience and commitment to make policy change. They fought hard to have adult protection legislation in NI brought in line with the rest of the UK.
