I'm not trying to replicate the awe and magnificence of nature. I strive to create an image that is its own thing, an artful piece inspired by nature and to be appreciated for the qualities that hopefully I bring to it. Here I'm working just steps from my studio/home where bald eagles hunt.
I'm drawn to spider webs partly for their design and partly for how dew on them reflects light. The branch and webs combined really evoke a mysterious, even spooky aura. #landscapephotography #intimatelandscape #closeupphotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography #blackandwhitephotography
This image made on slide film, was an award winner years back in a Nature's Best magazine's international competition. It hung in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum as part of their special exhibit related to the contest. Made in PA, but it's not about location. Still one of my favorites.
Red is like pepper, a little bit goes a long way. I composed to create a diagonal line of red. Compositions don't exist "out there," they are created. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography Elements Magazine FRAMES Magazine #photographyisart #photographyislife
A feather floating among the clouds. But the clouds are a refection in pond water (the point of surface tension visible). Rendered in black and white, the image becomes more abstract, appropriate I feel for a piece that is already a bit of an enigma. #landscapephotography #bwphotography
How one sees the world is much more important than what's actually there. The seemingly most simple elements can inspire something which is much more. I met an adventure photographer this weekend; my adventure happens wherever I am at.
A foggy morning yesterday when I woke, didn't even grab a coffee, just out the door. This monochromatic rendering feels mysterious with the passageway through the trees. It's a view I've been studying from our front porch for some time. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography
This image is of trees and brush but is really about line and texture, and contrast. It's one of the few pieces I've ever done in a square format, but I thought it was the right choice. #landscapephotography #creativephotography #fineartphotography #abstractphotography #elementsphotomag
This redbud tree was reflecting in pond water with a slight breeze. I composed to maximize the pink-blue contrast and timed my exposure with the ripples. I inverted the image so that the tree had a more "normal" appearance.
The Snail as a totem and spiritual creature signifies patience, living in the moment, embracing life's journey. Part of my ongoing project of exploring the personal landscape on which we live. #naturephotography #animaltotem #creativephotography #fineartphotography #macrophotography
Pleased to have received word that my Erie Art Museum piece, Fall Tapestry, has sold as part of their 102nd Annual Spring Show. #fineartphotography #naturephotography #pennsylvaniaphotographer #museum #artmuseum #landscapephotography
Part of a new project, the small wildlife on our plot of land. This is a Robberfly, isn't it wonderful! #insectphotography #macrophotography #omsystem #closeupphoto #backyardphotography
Exploring my immediate surroundings visually, square inches at a time, brings me closer to nature both physically and psychologically. #naturephotography📷 #macrophoto #macrophotography #closeuphotography #backyardphotography #nikonz #nikonphotography #nikonmacro #outdoorphotography
This is the image from the other evening that I will print. Blues, pinks, and greens, make for both a complementary and harmonious color palette. A sense of tension is present from the dramatic clouds, but the solidity of the tree offers a feeling of strength and security. #landscapephotography

I was out the door last evening when I saw the sun peeking after a passing storm. I don't usually chase light, but when I can do it locally......I'm off!

Part of a series using 60-70 yr old German film lens adapted to my modern camera to create ethereal, kind of nostalgic feeling images.

Sunrise is always my favorite time of the day. I made this image just across the road from our studio/home. #fineartphotography #landscapephotography #naturephotography #elementsphotomag #zenphotography #everydayestheticexperience
Early morning with my new favorite tree. I think about this tree and field a lot, it's five minutes from me so I can respond to conditions quickly. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #elementsphotomag #outdoorphotography ELEMENTS Magazine Take Magazine #ArtOfVisuals #nikonphotography
I've been doing a series on spring trees. The early budding and leafing allows for the tree structure and landscape behind to be part of the image. Working into the sun makes everything glow. #landscapephotography #fineartphotography #creativephotography #pennsylvaniaphotographer
Hues of spring. While I prefer soft light, contrasty light offers a different opportunity. I do not rate light, only what I do with it.

An image about contrasts: complimentary colors, geometric lines vs organic forms, man-made vs nature. This seems like a simple image but there's a lot going on.

Spring colors are just as exciting as fall colors. This painterly rendering is a Redbud tree reflected in pond water with a breeze blowing. I composed some sky blue and grassy greens for contrast. A combination of color harmony and complimentary colors.
