39. Still doing “Guys with iPhones” elder millennial mirror selfies I guess.
Paul is taking a selfie of himself in a mirror. He’s holding a black phone, and is wearing a black t shirt, black pants, a watch, glasses, and sporting short dark hair and a mustache. He has tattoos on his right forearm.

I'm raffling off some beadwork to support Indigenous charity organizations in honour of #OrangeShirtDay. Tickets are 10$ each, 100% of ticket sales will benefit the Orange Shirt Society, the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and the East Van Friendship Centre.

Annnnddd because this is not the bad social media place and is a personal account… here’s a fieldwork thirst trap 😂
Paul is chilling in his tent after a long day in the field. He’s not a mustache, is wearing a grey long sleeved shirt, and the tent light is casting a uniform orange glow

Back in cell service after fieldwork on Axel Heiberg Island, Nunavut, and the plants were stunning!
The Lapland poppy, Oreomecon lapponica, sends up satellite dish shaped yellow flowers with four broad petals arranged in a shallow cup. The hairy lousewort, Pedicularis hirsuta, with sprays of pink flowers arranged in a whorl along the central stem in amongst tufts of white hairs. The spider saxifrage, Saxifraga flagellaris, has three yellow flowers on the top of a red stem with a red spray of leaves at the bottom. Thin red runners spread out in all directions from the base of the plant. The sudetan lousewort, Pedicularis albolabiata, has a showy crown of white flowers with little pink helmets. The white flowers have pink dots, and are located on the top of a green stem.

It’s nice to be back in Nunavut. Currently in Resolute and tomorrow on to Axel Heiberg Island for two weeks of fieldwork.
Paul takes a selfie while wearing a grey vest and a blue neck gaiter (and his ridiculous mustache). He’s standing on a stony tundra with patches of green moss scattered and blue skies overhead. The purple mountain saxifrage (Saxifraga oppositifolia), in all its bright glory. Each flower has five purple petals arranged in a star like fashion, and the plant is covered in these flowers peeking through great rocks. Parry’s wallflower (Parrya arctica), the green basal leaves are emerging from brown moss, and holds two round clusters of densely packed mauve flowers). The white worm lichen (Thamnolia subuliformis) consists of many small white worm like projections emerging from green moss, rising towards the sky.

It was only a matter of time (tattoo and photo from the amazing Pierre at HungryxHound).

The collection continues to grow.
Two tattoos on a man’s left forearm. The top tattoo depicts, a paper airplane, the bottom tattoo depicts a paper boat. Both are drawn in blank.

Don’t let the eye bags fool you - the Canadian Botanical Association meetings were fun! Also lovely to be back in St. John’s for a bit.
A selfie of Paul in front of a pond with university buildings behind. Paul is wearing a blue checked shirt and looks perpetually tired.

The core of a magnolia bloom, pink and spiky. A bearded man stares down at the camera from an oblique angle.

I know bearface at the airport is unoriginal but I am desperately under caffeinated.

Finally feels a bit like spring out here.

10 km hike with a 9 kg pack - getting set for fieldwork is nice on such a lovely spring morning.
A selfie of a man wearing a gray hoodie, green sunglasses, and a tan ball cap. He’s in an Arboretum, and the sun is shining.

Looking forward to seeing it!

Orion, Cassiopeia, Corona Borealis, and the Pleiades are all lifelong favourites. Might have to get them all (maybe in separate pieces). The aspen is also a longtime friend.

That’s definitely along the lines of that I’m thinking too. I have a daytime scene on the inner forearm, so might do a nighttime piece with peaks and stars right next as a compliment. Knowing me they’ll all happen eventually 😂

The urge for a new tattoo is strong. Thoughts for open feedback: trembling aspen leaves, constellations, craggy mountains, all of the above?
