Considering climate solutions in a vacuum is short-sighted and dangerous. Too many of them imperil nature. Solar farms are sited on virgin land. Wind farms continue to be built without simple changes that could prevent millions of bird collisions.

Since 1970, global wildlife populations have plunged by an average of 73%, and more than a quarter of our planet’s species now face extinction.

Nature needs advocates. Political will is needed. Action is essential. So is recognition that this work is not optional—it is foundational.

At Building Bridges 2025, experts from PI, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Morphosis, and more explored how financial and associated policy innovations can unlock nature-related opportunities for private investors and scale private capital flows into nature as infrastructure.

Dr. Jane Goodall has long been an inspiration to both my wife, Wendy, and me. Her courage, intellect, and unwavering commitment to the natural world have left a profound mark on generations.

The biodiversity and climate crises continue the dual cycle of destruction, each exacerbating the other. Worse, our efforts to mitigate climate change too often increase biodiversity loss.
A pull-quote graphic, set over a blue backdrop with graphs, money, and a world map, with this quote from Hank Paulson: "Global biodiversity finance flows are a tenth of global climate funding. Recent analysis shows the financing gap has surged 30 percent since 2020 to more than $940 billion in 2024. Leaders at COP must take decisive action to tackle climate and biodiversity together."
