Cancer research is going to disappear in the US because apparently no one in US leadership ever took a biology class. “DOGE found $8 million grant to make mice transgender. This is real.”

As seen on BBC's Winterwatch: wood mice finding their way!

In this amazing footage from @pavelstopka.bsky.social and David Macdonald's research, wood mice can be seen arranging leaves in a specific orientation, creating portable waymarkers as they forage.

In the wild, wood mice (Apodemus sylvaticus) distribute small objects such as leaves or twigs to aid exploration.

Published 21 years ago by Pavel Stopka and David Macdonald, this research featured in Apple TV+'s new series: The Secret Lives of Animals.

New BBC episode is now online and I am very happy that the story about wood mice making signposts is based on our research (dx.doi.org/10.1186/1472...) while I was a postdoc in @oxfordbiology.bsky.social (Dept. Zool. at that time). #WILDCRU
