Because the future isn’t waiting for permission. And if we want inclusive, equitable communities, we need more young leaders stepping up now.

Our session — Local Leadership Lab: Equipping Changemakers to Run for Office — will be led by @krystalmarx.bsky.social & is all about showing students how to turn passion for justice into actual power. Campaign skills, coalition building, amplifying marginalized voices… she's covering it all.

We're heading to the National Conference on Student Life in November to help student leaders flip the script: leadership doesn’t just live in the White House or the Capitol — it starts in your city hall, your school board, your community. 👇🏻

Running for office? Don't wait for the filing deadline! Starting your political campaign months early is KEY for strategic planning, fundraising, & deep voter connection. Huge advantages, esp. for non-traditional candidates. #PCEInstitute #EarlyCampaign #PoliticalStrategy

Our founder, Krystal Marx, had a great time presenting on Pride to the City of Redmond this afternoon! The breakout conversations highlighted a few key systems changes the city can make to be more inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community.

You can start by calling out injustices as you see them arise - at school, in the workplace, in racist, ableist, misogynistic microaggressions.

Think of 'saying something' as a muscle and train. Build it as you would any other skill, because we need EVERYONE to be speaking up... like, yesterday.

Running for office? Yeah, it's terrifying. Public scrutiny, endless hours, the risk of losing... But if we don't step up, who will?

People who fight only for themselves, that's who.

Sometimes, fear is the sign you're doing something important. #civicduty #publicservice #leadership

Krystal created the PCE Institute as a way to demolish the gatekeeping of skills and methods in activist spaces, and to inspire neighbors near and far to fight for their communities.

"Getting involved in your community doesn't have to be so hard," she says. "And no one should be making it harder."

15 years in nonprofits (Seattle Pride, Real Change), and even working for the state democratic party, has demonstrated the need to share effective strategies and to stop gatekeeping in its tracks.

Krystal has taught self-defense since 2013 and bystander intervention since 2015, and aims to provide practical skills for everyday life. Their experience as a consultant with #SheShouldRun preparing women for office, and serving on Burien City Council highlighted plenty of barriers to advocacy.

They founded the People's Community Empowerment Institute (PCEI) to empower individuals and communities to define and build a more just, safe, and equitable world *on their own terms*, while addressing the issue of local leaders enacting policies that target marginalized communities.

📢 Meet the Founder!

Krystal Marx (she/they) was homeless at eight years old, and she became a playground "bodyguard for hire" in Second Grade so she could reliably eat (their preferred payment? Chocolate pudding.). Over 30 years later, they're still fighting... but now, it's for community.
