Recent Ringing
The Wales tour continued with a peal at Pontyprodd & Michaelston-y-Fedw. They rang Dereham and Lessness at the two towers, both with 8 bells.

The church has a nave & chancel of different heights, roofed with slates. The tower is tall and square with a fine spire atop it. At the top of the tower are pediments with clocks, we can see 2 faces. The whole is made of a dark grey stone, with cream stone used for window surrounds and carved details.

Recent Ringing
The band at St Mary's Peterborough celebrated Julian;s significant birthday by ringing a quarter peal of Seventieth Birthday Doubles. Happy birthday, Julian!

A modern church in light brown brick against a blue sky, just a few puffy white clouds. The church has a tower and about 2/3rds of the way up a set of lighter bands in brick, where the louvres are.
To the left of the tower is the church entrance, with a high canopy over it.
In front is a road and some cones and to the right what appears to be 2 people working, maybe dealing with the bushes that are between the church and the road, they have a green piece of machinery that I can't identify!

Recent Ringing
The band on tour in Wales visited Caerphilly. In a subversive move, they rang a method called Cheddar - a cheese based twist!

Caerphilly church is of a dark grey/brown stone, with pale facings. It sits behind a modern construction lychgate.
It is wet.

The Welsh tour continued with a peal at Radyr. They rang the method named after the place, so it was Radyr at Radyr.

It has been raining in this photo, the street is wet and the sky threatening. The church is on a slight rise and built of a dark grey stone. The tower is on the far side of the church in this picture, the nave end, a side aisle are nearer to us.

Recent Ringing
The Welsh adventure continued with the heavy eight at Ebbw Vale. They rang Double Norwich and it was the first in the method for Helena, James & Michael. Well done all, it's a great method.

The red brick church has a pitched roof to the nave facing us, a porch central on this face and 2 side aisles. The tower is to the right of the church and image. The square tower has a a set of large louvres, 4 pointed turrets and a clock in a pediment. There is then an octagonal grey slate roof tapering to a point

Recent Ringing
The PDG touring party rang a peal at Swansea Minster. They rang for the Trafalgar Day Service, during which a wreath was laid at the memorial to Major Louis Roteley, who served on HMS Victory as Royal Marine at the battle.

Recent Ringing
Medbourne is just into Leicestershire, so not a huge outing for some of our ringers who went to ring a peal at Medbourne. It was called round early and so they settled for ringing a quarter instead.

Medbourne church is mostly constructed of a deep cream/brown stone, with the decorative mouldings and some banding in a lighter cream stone. It is roofed in red/brown tiles. We see the church from the side, with the tower at the left, a large window in a transept or chapel facing us and the chancel to the left. The tower is square and plainly constructed, there are corner buttresses and a crenelated parapet.. There's a round clock very near the top. The sky is blue and the trees to the left of the image and behind the church are all bare.

Recent Ringing
A band from the area are on tour in Wales (currently wettest Wales). They rang a peal on the excellent 10 at Abergavenny. The guidebook makes an extravagant claim about the bells!

The central tower of St Mary's is central in the image. It is taken from the South east corner of the church, and we see the chancel to the right of the tower, behind a palm tree. To the left of the image is part of the priory buildings, now part of the church estate. The grass is neatly mown and the sky is a bright, clear blue.

A paragraph from the priory guidebook giving the history of the bells and claiming they are the best ring of 10 bells in Christendom!

Recent Ringing
A band rang a quarter peal at Wicken this week, in Superlative Major. Rumour has it that the method was named as it was better than Cambridge, it was Superlative. Got to love the confidence of the people who named that!

Wicken church is viewed from the chancel end. A large East window faces us, with a cruciform church layout evident. The tower is at the West end, and emerges above the chancel roof. The whole is form a neatly cut beige stone. The tower has several stages that taper and a parapet.
The church is viewed across a raised churchyard, the grass is almost at eyelevel nearest to the photographer. It is neatly trimmed and there are a number of columnar evergreens. The sky is mostly blue, with light, high cloud and puffy white clouds. It feels like a summer evening.

Recent Ringing
The regular Thursday quarter peal group rang a quarter at Orlingbury this Thursday. They rang London Bob Minor and it was Andrew's first in the method.

Orlingbury is a cruciform church, with a central tower. We see the church from the east end, the nave towards us, porch and transept to the right.
There's a large tracery window on the East end. There's a window, porch and window before the transept. The tower stands tall in the centre, with a clock and then tall louvres before a crenelated top and tall pinnacles. The church is ironstone with cream stone facings and tracery.
The sky is cloudy, and the grass is green. There is a clump of bright yellow daffs in the middle of the image.

Recent Ringing
A band rang a peal of 42 different methods at Wadenhoe this week. It was Paul & Richard's 200th peal together.

This is an unusual church. The tower is to the right, the body of the church is to the left and away from us. We can see 2 faces of the tower. In 3 stages, it dates from the 12thC. The tower has an unusual pitched roof and there are only a few small windows in tower's west face. In the lower stage of the North face of the tower we can see 3 blind arches of an arcade.
Of the church we can see the North side aisle and porch above wich is a short clerestory of 3 bays. The church is of a brown/grey rubble stone.
The church is set on top of a slope and we can see the fields of Northamptonshire spread out beyond the church. There are trees framing the church on either side of our view and the sky is an almost cloudless blue. The grass in front of us is closely mown and slightly parched. The image makes me think of a hot August.

Saturday sees activity in 3 branches. Wellingborough kick off with the surprise practice at Mears Ashby at 10:30 and then have their branch practice at 7pm at Irchester
Culworth & Daventry have a joint meeting at Nether Heyford (with service, tea & meeting) at 3pm then Upper Boddington at 7pm.

Orlingbury held their annual conker contest on Sunday. The bells rang in advance of the contest, in one esoteric English tradition supporting another!
It was Ricky's first quarter of minor.

Piddington church is viewed through foliage and flowers. The tower is furthest from us nearer is the church and a side aisle. The tower and church are of a creamy/grey coloured stone, while the side aisle and a porch are in a much brighter red, that might be brick, it's that red.
The tower is quite tall and ornate. The tower is square, but it seems to have a round drum on which the stubby spire is perched.

Stoke Bruerne church is viewed across the churchyard. The tower is facing us and the body of the church is behind and to the left of the tower. The church is constructed of a creamy textured stone. The tower has corner buttresses up to the last stage, which has the louvres in it. The face of the tower has a black clock with gold numerals and hand facing us. The church has a side aisle and clerestory on one side, with the visible roofs being green metal in appearance. The tower seems quite tall compared to the size of the church.

Recent Ringing.
The Peterborough St Mary's ringers welcomed Rev Shilo Varughese to the church, after having been curate at St Kyneburgha's Castor. This was rung by members of both bands.
It was Joseph's first triples as conductor Well done!

The bell ringers at St Giles Northampton rang for the 100th anniversary of the St Giles Girl Guides. Unfortunately, the planned quarter peal did not end successfully, and so is reported an general ringing.

A cruciform church with a central tower, St Giles sits in a churchyard with a dusting of snow and a blue sky. The church is of a deep creamy coloured stone and appears most warm and welcoming in the cold picture. The square central tower shows banding of cream and brown stone before a crenelated parapet and pinnacles on the corners. There is a bare flagpole on the top.
