We would like to wish The National Lottery Community Fund a very happy birthday!

The National Lottery has supported PEGS from the very beginning, helping us to continue providing free services for parental figures and those affected by CPA.

Experts estimate that at least 3% of homes in the UK are impacted, that’s around 870,000 families.

Many incidents of CPA go unreported. Parents may feel fear, shame or worry that they won’t be believed all of which can make reaching out for support feel impossible.

This often comes alongside coercive and controlling behaviours and gaslighting, which we hear about frequently at PEGS. For many parents, this form of abuse can be so intense that it damages family relationships, friendships and even marriages for some.

Just because we provide support for parental figures doesn’t mean we think children (of any age) don’t matter, because they absolutely do.

Being a parent focused service simply means that parents can feel heard supported ensuring their voices are not lost while we work to support the whole family

Child to Parent Abuse is not always recognised or even considered as a form of abuse, yet the reality is CPA does exist and parents, carers and guardians are experiencing abusive behaviours from their child.

October is #DomesticAbuseAwarenessMonth - a reminder that abuse can take many forms.

While recognising “typical” signs matters, not everyone’s story fits neatly into those boxes and many behaviours overlap across the different forms of abuse.

This is from our most recent report.
