I left the bikes at home today and caught the bus to Newport Pembrokeshire. I arrived just as the tide was dropping to find the Green-winged Teal asleep. A Kingfisher made a brief appearance and 5 adult Med Gulls were nice to see.

My annual trip to Parkend Forest of Dean for Hawfinch didn't disappoint With at least 6 Hawfinches on Crown Lane. The cycle from Lydney to Parkend through the beautiful Forest of Dean wasn't half bad either. 🚂 🚲

The last bus back from St Davids to Haverfordwest after a fantastic Dowrog session where the harriers put on a fantastic show flying around before roosting. My folder is so good for travelling by bus.

Late afternoon at the Dowrog Common St Davids- at least 4 Hen Harriers (3 males).

It was a good start after catching the bus to Tenby of 12 Purple Sandpipers under the Lifeboat Station at high tide. The most i have recorded here.

There were no hoped for wild geese or a good quacker around St.Davids today. The 1w Russian White-fronted Goose was still with the Canada Geese at Penberi. 3 Hen Harriers (2 males) came into roost at the Dowrog Common at dusk.

A trip over to South Pembrokeshire with my birding buddy Brian Southern started well with 2 Slavonian Grebes in Angle Bay and 15 pale-bellied Brent Geese. At Castlemartin 10 Whooper Swans, a Merlin, 2 Marsh Harriers. No Russian White-fronted Geese that were seen yesterday or the male Pallid Harrier.

This low carbon birding can be stressful and annoying sometimes 😁

Again, because my train was late and i missed my bus connection to Llanrhidian. I am back in Pembrokeshire now 🥳 Tomorrow Castlemartin, with my birding buddy Brian and Tuesday folding bike/train/bus in another attempt to see the Tundra Beans, Pinkfeet and White-fronted Geese in the Towy Valley.
December 28, 2025 at 10:16 AM
Everything went wrong yesterday. My planned trip up the Towy Valley to see some geese was a disaster as my train was late, and i missed my Llandeilo bus. Kidwelly was next where 2 Sibe chiffchaffs were showing nicely at the sewage works. Finally, i abandoned the Llanrhidian raptor roost continued..

A trip to Morriston Park Swansea.
December 24, 2025 at 6:02 PM
A fantastic 2 hours before dusk at Llanrhidian Marsh, the Pallid Harrier put on a fantastic show also 1 male Hen Harrier, 1 Marsh Harrier, and 3 Great Egrets.
December 24, 2025 at 5:06 PM
Yesterday, i caught the train from Swansea to Kidwelly. 1 Siberian Chiffchaff behind the sewage works along the canal path, 1 Marsh Harrier hunting Kidwelly Marsh and 8 Red-breasted Mergansers from Kidwelly Quay. Rb Mergs are quite localised in Pembs, mainly in South Pembs. Nice to see eight. 🚂

Big thanks to @pembsbikingbirder.bsky.social for finding this drake Green-winged Teal at Slimbridge yesterday afternoon, some of the best views I've had of this American duck with great side-by-side comparison to its Eurasian counterparts #GlosBirds
