192KB VDP upgrade for #MSX Turbo R
VDP supports 192KB!? Now, this is a bit of an unconventional modification. Frankly, it's a bit of a cheat, but I think it'll deliver decent results. The idea is to increase the turbo R's video RAM by a further 64 kilobytes. With SCREEN12, that means you get a full screen's worth of buffer. Since it reduces the number of times data needs to be read from disk, it can also be applied to animations.

Just learned that the #MSX V9938 and V9958 actually support 192KB of VRAM. I'm curious about the 128KB standard limit and what nice upgrade it would be for MSX2+ or TurboR.
An obvious reason is the price of memory in the 80s, but I wonder why no one created an MSX with that VRAM for all those years

Yesterday, I saw a Sanyo Wavy3 at the #MSXMalagaMeeting owned by @fiteblog.bsky.social, and it's a fascinating #MSX. (I forgot to take photos)
It's an MSX computer with three slots! *Each of these slots is a primary slot*, and each can be expanded up to four slots.

The WAVY3 is an MSX-standard personal computer released by Sanyo Electric. At first glance, the design itself is quite ordinary for an MSX: a silver-colored, keyboard-integrated body. Looking at the catalog specs, the back seems a bit sparse due to the lack of a printer port, and the 16KB main memory isn't particularly unusual either. However, this machine possesses a unique feature found on no other MSX: three cartridge slots lined up on the top of the unit. It's an MSX computer with three slots! Each of these slots is a primary slot, and each can be expanded up to four slots. If you're so inclined, you can utilize up to 3 × 4 = 12 slots. Moreover, above the cursor keys is a slot select button, allowing you to switch which slot is active. By using this wisely, you can build and switch environments tailored to specific tasks: Slot A for kanji ROM + word processor cartridges, Slot B for memory expansion + music cartridges, Slot C for communication-related cartridges... and so on. This setup promises to deliver the ultimate MSX environment." The four buttons are used to change the primary slot.
