As per usual, I'm late to the party, but I've finally made the jump to Bluesky. If you don't know me, I have a degree in Medieval history, I write novels, & I love baseball. I have lots of projects in the works, but check out my newsletter, Powder Blue Nostalgia.

I don't ever want an athlete to get hurt, but as a Broncos fan, I think it's only fair that that the NFL break the ankle of the winning QB after the Patriots-Texans game.

Somebody tell Jarrett Stidham to grow a mustache because I'm gonna need him to do his best Jeff Hostetler impression for the next few weeks.

Trying to review more books on Goodreads in the hopes of connecting with more book people. Here's my review of @blacktopkid.bsky.social's Razorblade Tears. #booksky

Patrick Glancy's review of Razorblade Tears
5/5: S.A. Cosby has sort of become the face of crime fiction in recent years, an honor that is well-deserved. He writes gripping, violent stories that flow with the ease of great pulp, but with the ki...

I've had a Goodreads account for a while, but just now started to do anything with it. It feels like talking about books I love is a better use of my free time than doomscrolling, so here's my take on @jordanharper.bsky.social's Last King of California.

5/5: Crime fiction is my favorite genre. Don't get me wrong, I read all sorts of stuff, but anything that falls into the crime/noir/pulp category is at the top of the list for me. And not just as a re...

For all the complaining Texas Tech's coach, the Big 12 commish,& everyone else has done about Notre Dame not being in a conference, the Irish have 3x as many #CFP wins as the whole Big 12 conference since 2014. TCU might want to consider going independent.

People ding Notre Dame for their sched, but in the era of bloated conferences & strategic scheduling, I really don't see much difference between them & the rest of the CFP contenders in that department. #CFP

I've been watching Notre Dame football for 37 years now, and this is the first time I've ever seen them score 70. Crazy game.

Still thinking about that epic World Series and Game 7? You aren't the only one.

Watching Black Sabbath today & once again reminded that Boris Karloff, owner of one of the great voices in film history, is still most famous for playing a largely mute monster. The world is a funny place sometimes.

Why would Netflix shell out the cash for an epic new version of Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro & not make it available to stream until a week after Halloween? I know they wanted a theatrical run, but they had all month for that! Makes no sense at all.

If you're a #Royals fan looking for a rooting interest in the postseason, check out this excellent article by my former KoK peer @jmilhamkc.bsky.social about the Red Sox's Nate Eaton. He's playing right now! Eaton, not Jacob.

KC Royals: Nate Eaton, a ball park, and a picture
The offseason takes away baseball for the most part. But, no matter the time of year, I see KC Royals outfielder Nate Eaton.

That might have been the dumbest Notre Dame loss I've seen in 37 years of watching them.

Gun violence is never a good thing. Some of us have been trying to get that point across for a long time. I just wish there was this much outrage on the right over this afternoon's school shooting, or Uvalde, or Sandy Hook, etc., as there is over the man who said this.

Wrote a new short story for the first time in quite a while. Only a first draft, but feel good about it. Might even be the start of a bigger project. We'll see.

You know when you read a dystopian sci-fi novel & America has been divided into countries with goofy names like the West Coast Federation or the Great Lakes League? What Trump is doing right now with vaccines/healthcare, the National Guard, etc., is how you end up with that. So much for MAGA.

"Sure, piggy, you can pout & spend all your time building a brick house to keep the big bad wolf out, or you could work with him, stick an apple in your mouth, turn your house into kindling, & strike a match!" Ugh.
when Reese Witherspoon says "you can be sad and lament it all you want but the change is here" she's saying people shouldn't be sad their jobs & livelihoods will be taken away from them in order to benefit some of the richest scumbags in Hollywood, & that they shouldn't resist it

Here's the thing. I love writing. And I want people to read my stuff. But damn, do I hate the process of getting it to them.

Is there anything more frustrating than a publisher you feel would be a great fit being closed to submissions "for an indeterminate time?"

Probably, but waiting for them to reopen, wondering if they ever will, is enough to make one self-publish.
August 29, 2025 at 5:09 PM
I think I’ve finally reached the point where I’m ready to self-publish my novel. I feel good about the book itself, but the idea of self-publishing is a little overwhelming. Anyone out there who’s done it feel like dropping some guidance? Companies, timelines, cover artists, that sort of thing?
