Until British politicians are upfront about payoffs and the true cost of things we will be in an endless cycle of disappointment and distrust from the voters. No one has the courage to highlight the positives of immigration or that infrastructure and public services need actual money to improve

Who knows @mrjamesob.bsky.social we might actually now have some decent communication from the government.

It would solve some immediate problems but it’s not a panacea to a lot of the systemic economic and political problems the U.K. has. It won’t solve the problem of politicians saying you can have high quality public services on minimal taxation. Or you can have high pensions on zero immigration

So we have to ask that since Labour took power and we have numerous polls and studies which showed that they were losing their base AND not attracting Reform voters (and the polls and studies which showed they never will) why he continued on the same strategy?

McSweeny’s resignation is long overdue. I hope it signals a change of strategy of alienating your own voters at the expense trying to get voters who will never vote for you.

To be blunt while Suella Braverman may identify as British rather than English Matthew Goodwin would consider her as neither @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Grifters and conmen can be plausible and believable. It’s what ties Brexit Trump Farage and far right together. Grievance politics can be seen to many as a simple answer not realising that complex problems are rarely solved by simple answers. We are on the age of Simplism.

Tbh masterminding an election win in 2024 wasn’t difficult. Sooty could have done it. Tories were toxic and all he had to was make sure Starmer’s pants didn’t fall down during the campaign. Tactical voting amplified the defeat but despite his supposed brilliance he only garnered 34% of popular vote

Anger at the conmen. Compassion for the conned? @mrjamesob.bsky.social
As much as we want to rip them a new one for getting us into this mess, when people on the right come forward and apologize and admit they were wrong, we should probably welcome them to the light.

So Trump is admitting he openly employs bigots and racists then @mrjamesob.bsky.social ?

If only this brilliant article on the positives of immigration had been written by Kier Starmer @mrjamesob.bsky.social instead of publicising the policy stopping asylum seekers using taxis for Doctor and Hospital appointments.
Excellent @nytimes.com opinion piece offering both pragmatic and morally compelling reasons why Spain has chosen a different path than many other Western societies in addressing immigration and migration countering the despicable #maga narrative : www.nytimes.com/2026/02/04/o...

Tolerance and diversity are core British values. They are the basis of the U.K. citizenship test and these values are also taught in schools as part of the national curriculum and arr called core British values

This is why you should never ride Trumps coattails. He will always flip his position and then leave you looking stupid.

If Morgan McSweeny is doing a β€˜brilliant job’ right now I would hate to see what happens when he does a really bad job @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Starmer does seem to be getting in the neck for believing one of biggest liars and arseholes.

Beth has a very short memory @mrjamesob.bsky.social while this is bad for the government it will take lot for any scandal to overtake Partygate for its basic awfulness

Those 2.2m people have been working, contributing and integrating in the U.K. the implication by Tapp is that if all these people are given ILR will suddenly become spongers and scroungers as soon as they get their ILR.
