We’re away with our best friends for a few days at Trearddur Bay on Anglesey. The sea was very very cold. (Who knew?) so a short dip was all I managed. Hopefully a swim will happen.

I **ABSOLUTELY** agree with this as a principle. He should NEVER ever have been given a peerage. He was, is and will always be a self-interested scumbag.
One lesson from the Epstein–Mandelson affair is that we need to stop routinely rehabilitating political careers after serious scandals.
When politicians knowingly engage in grave ethical wrongdoing, that should permanently end their political careers. Being "talented" should not override that.

The thing about this, if true, is that he wasn’t exactly an Einstein to start with. To all intents & purposes he was functionally illiterate, disinterested in detail, lacking in curiosity, humility & (crucially) empathy. Even a small decline would make your average household pet smarter than him.
