Meet Dr Niamh Kelly! Dr Kelly is a Lecturer in Phonetics & Phonology at Newcastle University and a member of our Phonetics & Phonology Research Group.

Dr Kelly is a Lecturer in Phonetics & Phonology in the School of English Literature, Language, and Linguistics at Newcastle University. Her research integrates approaches from phonetics, psycholinguistics, and theoretical phonology, and centres understudied language varieties. She also has an interest in multilingualism, language acquisition, and linguistic typology.

Dr. Khattab is a Professor in Phonetics in the School of Education, Communication, and Language Sciences. Her interests include experimental phonetics, language acquisition, and speech processing. Her research lies in the areas of Arabic phonetics-phonology, monolingual and bilingual phonological acquisition, and sociophonetics.

Who We Are: The Phonetics & Phonology Research Group brings together staff and students from a wide range of Newcastle University departments. Our group fosters collaboration between researchers interested in all aspects of speech production and perception, utilising a diverse range of methdologies. Our areas of interest include laboratory phonology, sociophonetics, psycholinguistics, multilingualism and much more.
