“The more I read Austen, the more I feel that all of the books are really about how to read and understand and interpret the world.”

I love contributing to Jane Austen's Paper Trail, alongside esteemed colleagues Meg Kobza & Octavia Cox:

Jane Austen perfected the love story – but kept her own independence
In the second episode of Jane Austen’s Paper Trail, we speak to Austen experts about her views on love, and the role of romance in Pride & Prejudice.

Happy 423 years of us! 🎉 📚

The Bodleian Libraries opened for the first time on 8 November 1602...

This means, we're older than the refracting telescope (1608), the publication of Shakespeare's Hamlet (1623) and Sir Isaac Newton's apple (1666)! 😅

Halloween began as Samhain in Ireland, when the veil between this world and the "otherworld" thinned. In Co. Roscommon, this cave 👇 called Uaimh na gCat was said to open on Samhain allowing the spirits to walk freely among the living. 👻
