So you’re saying Americans deserve to lose their benefits because of their governemnt’s foreign policy; isn’t that the same as saying the Palestinians deserve to suffer for the actions of Hamas on Oct. 7th?
Welcome to America. if it makes you feel better to yell at me, knock yourself out, but importing Middle Eastern political feuds to this country has not made the US a happier place OR improved the situation on the ground in Palestine, and you know it.
No, I reject your analogy. The Jews of Warsaw could die in a camp or die in the ghetto and take a few German soldiers with them. Hamas chose to break the peace to invade Israel and murder civilians.
I’m sure wearing keffiyehs and vandalizing college quads felt great, but it got you Trump and this shutdown, and the bad guys won in Gaza. So who the fuck are you and what have you accomplished to call me the problem?
So you believe we should just resign ourselves to being ruled by arbitrary tyrants, subjects to their whims instead of citizens with rights? Fuck you, bootlicker!
There’s more people in this democracy than just you. There are a hundred million evangelicals who support Israel unthinkingly because Jesus. They vote, and they got what they wanted: the Gaza problem solved with brute force alone. Democracy works for them because they know how to be team players.
Pretending that the US government was going to cut off Israel, with whom we have a longstanding diplomatic and military relationship, is what was disingenuous. Plenty of Americans sympathized with Israel-making that your do-or-die issue wasn’t a recipe for anything besides breaking your own heart.
You allowed yourself to get negatively polarized into dropping the ball, because nothing on earth is more important than yet another Middle Eastern ethno-religious conflict, which are famously easy to resolve (even by your own lights, the bad guys won, so I don’t know what you’re so happy about.)
It WAS suicidal. However, the Israelis had no immediate plans to ship the Gazans to an extermination camp. There had been a modus vivendi since 2006, which Hamas broke By invading Israel and murdering civilians. No government on earth would not have retaliated to such a provocation.
That may have been true up to about 1980 or so, but Israel is a nuclear-armed state these days, and I suspect they’re big enough and old enough to take care of themselves now, and the Gulf Arabs and the Saudis are their allies in all but name.
Israel, which is why it was suicidally foolish and psychotically irresponsible for Hamas as the government of Gaza to have attacked them. This didn't happen in 1500s Mexico where the Aztecs weren’t aware of the powers their enemies commanded.
Then don’t subsequently piss and moan about losing one of our shared policy priorities (SNAP and Medicaid) for the sake of one which we do not (the moral primacy of Gaza, a foreign country) and wonder aloud how this could have happened.
No, I’m making the argument that the ME is a ridiculously violent place full of heavily-armed, heavily-bearded religious lunatics, and I can’t take sides in any of their conflicts without staining MY moral sensibilities. Both sides are child-killing, pathologically lying war criminals.
Alas, the Presidential vote is binary, and there’s no nuance to be had. With Harris the Palestinians got “genocide” and your friends got SNAP. With Trump the Palestinians get Genocide and your friends get no SNAP.
Indeed; the people are becoming acquainted with what happens when the Democrats are out of power, so I’m mentioning how mindlessly fucking stupid harping on an insoluble Middle Eastern foreign policy issue was if you wanted SNAP and Medicaid to continue unimpeded.
