Googling for typographically-oriented designers, I saw that searching for ’Veronika Burian’ causes the results to be set in Bree Serif. Also happens for ’José Scaglione’, who also worked on that typeface.

You wouldn’t ask this of a human writing partner: ’Show me an outline of this draft, with a reflection upon how each successive idea contributes to the reader’s understanding. I want to see the sequence of ideas, and when we revisit an idea to add nuance, and what that nuance contributes.’

Jag tänker att om språkmodeller alls ska kunna leda till AGI så handlar det antingen om att få fram text som manifesterar resterande mänsklig kunskap, eller att få modellerna att själva kunna resonera sig fram.

Kommer det komma en variant av reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) där människor kommer att beskriva sina resonemangskedjor för språkmodeller för att de ska kunna besvara frågor där kunskap inte har manifesterats i text i tillräcklig utsträckning? Finns det redan?

Med chain of thought och agentiska modeller, alltså att de kan resonera med sig själva när de svarar på dina frågor, så borde vi komma aningen längre även där det inte finns tillräckligt med text. Men hur långt räcker det?

Sålänge man rör sig i trakter där det finns mycket text i sin användning av språkmodeller så kan man också dra nytta av den kunskap som modellerna har tillgodogjort sig.

Kunskap manifesteras i språk. Språkmodeller tränas på ohyggliga mänger text. Därmed får de på sätt och vis kunskap – genom något som snarast är statistik, men eftersom det är sådana ohyggliga mängder och hur modellerna fungerar så känns det otillräckligt att kalla det enbart statistik.

Läser om Thomas Pynchon i DN. Undrar om jag skulle vilja läsa. Det låter å ena sidan spännande, å andra sidan som något som något som jag brukar störa mig på hos filmer: när de berättas tillkämpat olinjärt så att allt handlar om att lista ut vad som pågår – som Christopher Nolan.

But everyday spending doesn’t work like that. It’s irregular. You can’t plan it a month ahead. Some days nothing, other days everything at once.

Fixed costs are boundaries you set once.

Everyday spending needs daily pacing, not monthly limits.

Took me a long time to untangle what was actually going on.

I was treating two completely different things the same way.

Bills and subscriptions: you decide once, then they run automatically.

Food, shopping, plans: you decide many times, every day.

I spent years trying to make categories work.

Groceries. Entertainment. Transport. Eating out. Clothes.

I tried organising them different ways, convinced I just hadn’t found the right approach.

But something always felt off.
