Proud Canadian 🇨🇦🍁. Cloverdale, BC resident since 2001. Fighting for a more equitable and compassionate society. The climate crisis is real. End fossil fuel consumption now if we expect to leave a livable planet to future generations.

Stand up for what you believe in - democracy, equality, livable planet, affordable living, etc. You pick, but STAND UP. Future generations are counting on it.
An important question at a pivotal moment. Social programs that benefit all of society are coming under increasing pressure. The wealth exists in Canada to support everyone. We just need a tax code that gets the job done.

It's time for the wealthy to ask themselves: Do they want to be rich people in a poor country?

Or do they want to be rich in a country with great healthcare, education, and infrastructure where everyone has economic security and the opportunity to thrive?

If it's the latter, they should join us!
We're not any more altruistic than the next person. We want less inequality because we know our families will be better off in a society with less inequality.

We're greedy for a different kind of country—one where all people have the ability to thrive, succeed, and have their voices heard.

BC is exporting LNG and is in a frenzy of building for many projects.

This has implications for the climate, our health and affordability. Hear how from @iglikaivanova.bsky.social, @emikonewman.bsky.social, Ismail Askin @workersolidaritybc.bsky.social.

No question AI offers plenty of benefits but it needs to be implemented with guardrails. That isn't happening. It is being rolled faster than we can govern it. Buckle up.

One person I have a lot of time for is Tristan Harris of the Center for Humane Technology. Tristan was one of the first people to warn us of the dark side of social media platforms. We didn't listen. Now he is out with another warning on AI. Check out the videos below. 🧵

As Canadians, we like to think we’re strong and free. But, when it comes to the wealth gap, we’re looking more like America Lite—better manners, but almost all the inequality.

We would never deny that big things are hard to do!

But the alternative is a country where working Canadians dutifully pay their taxes and the uber-rich don't.

That's just not the kind of country we want to live in, and most people agree (about 80% of them in fact)

It is disturbing that journalist's like Terence Corcoran are such shallow thinkers. It should be obvious that a more equitable distribution of wealth tremendously benefits our community, economy and democracy. We shouldn't be having this conversation🙄.

Haha I guess my piece hit a nerve!
@patmillscanada.bsky.social on 🔥 with this rebuttal!
Wow! Someone's cranky!

While we appreciate the free press from Terence, let's see if we can improve his mood point by point.

Our member Abigail Disney puts it plainly: billionaires clinging to their wealth while workers struggle is not just unfair, it’s a threat to democracy itself.

Her call to action is clear: #TaxTheRich and build a society where prosperity is shared. www.yahoo.com/news/article...
Disney heiress says any billionaire who can’t manage to share their wealth is ‘kind of a sociopath’
Abigail Disney previously said the need to tax rich people like her “has never been so dire.”

The only way to protect your future is by taxing the billionaires more.

At the @makethempay.bsky.social rally today.
Strongly recommend that anyone interested in BC finances take the time to watch @iglikaivanova.bsky.social presentation. Too often our provincial finances are abbreviated to 30 second sound bites. It is more complicated and Iglika does an amazing job filling in the gaps. No need for austerity.
If you missed the “BC isn’t broke: the truth behind the deficit (and other austerity narratives)” webinar with our co-executive director & senior economist @iglikaivanova.bsky.social you can see it now!

It’s a data-driven look at BC’s fiscal health .

I’m running for NDP leader so we can transform a system rigged for the rich—together.
