You don't NEED nonprofits to 'expose' the AI bubble

(although of course it's a very useful function...)

- the financial pages are flagging it up all the time...

We're headed for a CRASH, that's all. AI is unreliable.

The people PROMOTING the technology, the ones who make it seem very DANGEROUS so they can sell us a 'more advanced' version to neutralize the threat, are CHARLATANS.

Just like 'manual' ignorance, Automated Ignorance FAILS.

Less than 70% of science Nobel prize winners awarded this century hail from the country in which they were awarded their prize.

More than 30% of this century’s science Nobel prizewinners immigrated: see their journeys
The most common destination for eventual Nobel laureates in physics, chemistry and medicine since 2000 is the United States, Nature has found.

This 'fool's errand'

(excitedly waiting for an Automated Ignorance program to take its field in a useful new direction...)

still manages to pose an interesting conundrum

- will Displacement Aerodynamics be MORE READILY ACCEPTED by the Aero community if an AI proposes it...?

I didn't say the mania for AI is a good thing; and yes, the expense, the waste and the kafkaesque effect on information are infuriating.

But the AI is ALREADY effing itself. According to typical hype, 'the next' version is always going to do better; in reality, it only ever APPEARS to.

Hey Aileron...!

You have my sympathy; Social Media isn't the world, and it often holds up a 'magnifying glass' to some of the most troubling events out there, bringing them closer and amplifying their impact.

Spin recovery is a thing, and I wish you clear weather to aid the process...

And applying Bernoulli's Rules For Flow to the STATIONARY air a bird or aircraft flies through requires some MASSIVELY ornate mathematics

- because the idea's absolute TWADDLE...!

When air DOES flow past an aircraft's wing

(fortunately, it's a rare event...)

a VERY DANGEROUS condition develops.

This 'unreality theme park' may seem like a new phenomenon

- but in a 'manual version', it's very familiar.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is 160 years old, and the supposedly 'nonfiction' subject of Aerodynamics has been 'living in a dream world' for over a Century.

That's the 'stepping off point' for many a Science Fiction story.

And in each, it's clear that IF "we could travel through time, space and other dimensions", then the 'mechanism'

(your 'TSOD' or John Wyndham's 'pillar and post'...)

for achieving it would also manage the relevant navigation...
pneumofoils.bsky.social
Will that EVER happen

- without a Scientific Revolution to put 'values' ahead of 'authority' and 'hierarchy'...?

A normal drivers license exam but then add a personality quiz that you only pass if you show that you value the safety of others

I used to see cycle couriers with all sorts of weight-saving modifications

(to their bike, that is...)

- but wearing a massive chain & padlock that would swing aggressively if a driver caused them to swerve, sometimes leading to damage...

The unfounded claim that Ground Effect combines 'reduced drag' with 'increased effective presentation angle'

(both FICTIONAL events...)

dangerously MISLEADS pilots about what's really happening when their aircraft struggles to gain speed & height

- or resists making contact with the runway.

And BOTH observations add significance to the same author's variable position on whether Ground Effect Vehicles PROPERLY qualify as a form of surface craft, or are 'obviously' a special kind of airplane.

Unfortunately, the prize's DICE ARE LOADED.

"Kitano presented the endeavour as the grand challenge for AI in science. A machine wins if it can achieve a discovery on a par with top-level human research."

But NEW ideas come from OUTSIDE THE BOX, not from massaging the egos in its 'top level'...

Persistent Aero Myths:

'The Power of the Vortex'

In the early 20th Century, HYPNOTISM was feared; the sinister villain of a novel or movie would WHIRL something before a victim's eyes, urging them to focus keenly on the motion until everything else faded

- and their doom was sealed...!

When @theaircurrent.com was but a wee publication, we broke a huge story: It outlined how air traffic controllers had the legal authority call out sick. Those actions massively slowed some airports and ultimately ended the 2019 U.S. gov shutdown. Watch for a repeat. theaircurrent.com/aviation-saf...

The REALLY wild thing is that air isn't even the best coolant

- it's just abundantly available in a Flight situation.

Helium's way better, and you only need a TINY thin 'film flow' of coolant bathing the parts. Even in your time, flow management is SO sophisticated that the gas can be RECOVERED...
