Good morning! I wasn't going to do this prompt for #PoemsAbout #imperfectMe but started writing it yesterday @paulwritespoems.bsky.social writing group. It's still rough. Thanks as always to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk
Poem:

Still Standing

The scar on my right breast
a faint tracing,
the charcoal under the artist’s paint,

tattooed dots,
ellipsis signaling the story continues—

always a before
and an after--

so far, always an after--

the sagging of flesh, the greying of hair,
points for endurance, if not for style,

as vain as anyone, I suppose,
but embracing the imperfect,
me.

Go Merril! Thank goodness we're all still standing! Sombre yet uplifting too...🙂

Really appreciate that comment Carolyn! I don't have anyone else but this community to bounce my work off so I'm glad I found it and all of you!!🙏🙏

There's no 'just' about being a song writer Matt- songs touch our hearts when needed in the right way. They can be our own self-therapy! 👏👏🙏

My heart reels at the honesty in this Helen! A lot of us brutalise ourselves in so many ways🙂🙏

* This is an older piece I wrote quite some time ago... it fits well with the prompt #ImperfectMe -- as I'm sure it does convey.

~baubles~
my words just baubles, cheap décor hung of the weeping limbs of a dead, dry christmas pine.
crumbling brittle thorns, needles fall in showers to the linoleum – dusty tears from the tormented heart of a poet, squeezed like a lemon, lamenting for eternity.
follow Willy’s weeping words and “strut and fret the hour,” the one that never comes and is always banished when it does…
is all the light a manic mirage, a grand deception of that tortured chamber?
to question is enough, to wonder is divine.
I relish in that wonder and let the query swim, refusing to relent an answer, with an equal air of divinity.
“strut and fret” indeed! not this...
...not this tortured heart.

The year's end thins and skeletal graveyard remains become more restless! 😱☠️

I was planning to write something centring on my total inability to be on time for anything for this week's #PoemsAbout prompt, #ImperfectMe - but it took my in a very different direction! Weekly big fat thanks to @thebrokenspine.co.uk and @alanparrywriter.co.uk. Happy Friday poets! 💜
White heart-shaped cloud against a blue sky background overlaid with the words of a poem:

You My Love

I give you the biggest bouquet of roses
Yellow as sun, white as clouds
You sneeze and sneeze until your nose splatters blood
Next time I’ll buy you scarlet blooms

I give you a puppy
Furry grey-and-white blur of happy motion
You tell me you can’t stand dogs, didn’t I know?
I chuckle and say, everyone loves dogs

I give you soft drapings
The loveliest dresses in jewel colours, emerald ruby sapphire
You try them on over your jeans and stay silent, eyes shuttered
I tell you, you have no idea how beautiful you are

You hand me back roses and puppy and clothes
You tell me, this is no good, is over, this is me leaving
And I look at you with eyes of loud ardour
And what I hear is, I love you forever and forever and forever
