That’s all to say I’m making a conscious effort to minimise all that. Deleted all unnecessary apps, disabled all notifications outside of critical ones (work and family members only). It’s early days but I’m already feeling more… human. More calm and less scatter brained.

The brain rot is getting so bad. I’ve been off TikTok for years, but my brain is still overstimulated every second of every day through my phone. Humans were not meant to ALWAYS have something stimulating us. Like we’re all allergic to being even a little bored.

I already keep Instagram as my “necessary evil” brainrot social media since many of my friends are there and we DM a lot. I’ve tuned the algorithm to only show me animal videos, funny memes (but not brainrot), and I make a point to only ever “browse” for a few minutes, once or twice a day max

I’ve deleted TikTok probably over a year ago now. I thought I would miss it more, but after a few weeks the urge to reinstall it went away and never came back. It’s been a huge net positive on my mental health, highly recommend.

My mother is a teacher (high school but still), not far from retirement, and even she is this close to calling it quits early. She tells me “I cannot with the kids anymore. They are profoundly dumber than ever before in my entire career. You can’t teach them when their attention span is 5 seconds”
