When I’m not sure of or don’t fully understand something one of my physicians has said, I seek assistance from another provider on my team. For example, I check what my medical oncologist has said with my supportive care doc or surgical onc.

And, Happy Birthday to you! 🎂🍰🧁🥮.

I too had my birthday & infusion day coincide. I wore a gold glitter “Birthday Girl” sash & plastic tiara to the cancer center. The staff were so happy to see me celebrating my birthday that they brought a piece of flourless chocolate cake to me during my infusion & sang happy birthday! 🎂

The strange emotions of taking off for a 2 week trip to Japan while waiting for biopsy results that will determine if I’m having a third recurrence of #endometrialcancer and coming home to an MRI. Oh, and waiting for the pharmacy to deliver my xanax refill… #cansky #oncosky #stage4needsmore

I am so sorry. The only appropriate response is #fuckcancer My condolences to you and your family.

Most definitely. I’ve never been in any part of a hospital where that sentiment would not apply.

I do not. But Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer hospital has an app for that. About Herbs.

My second day of a one-month break from Lenvima in advance of an overseas trip. I’m hoping I can actually taste & tolerate food while I’m traveling. I’ve been on Lenvima for 10 months & it’s been wreaking havoc on my entire GI system. 🤞🏻#cansky #oncosky

I hear you. I belong to an on-line support group & the number of newly diagnosed patients who go down the internet rabbit hole without looking to see exactly who is publishing the information they are reading is disheartening. I understand the desperation for info though.

The “ but they fixed it, you’re as good as new” sentiment is well meaning and unfortunately, very misinformed. Those of us who have survived or “beaten it” or are in remission have permanent physical & emotional scars & lasting effects. Muggles don’t understand.

Woohoo! Enjoy the moment!

I am not allowed to do any “strenuous” activity the day before my quarterly PET scans. In my book, walking counts as strenuous! So day-before-scan day is a couch day for me. Couch and filet mignon because it’s also low-carb day. Sending good vibes for tomorrow!

I did an Epic install (albeit years ago) & I concur that it’s likely a configuration issue that can be managed by your in-house team. Good luck!

Good news! My oncologist confirmed that the spot on my lung that lit up on my PET scan two weeks ago was probably nothing as the subsequent diagnostic CT scan did not show any nodule in that location. So I’m cleared for my upcoming travel with a one month break from Lenvima! #cansky #oncosky #oncsky

Dogs, couch, dogs on couch, true crime podcasts.

I second the sushi! Sending good vibes for the additional testing!

I did once (during an MRI!). The tech was not amused that she had to repeat the scan because I wasn’t keeping still!

Just got home from the CT scan ordered to try to identify the spot in my right lung that showed up on my latest PET. Not much scanxiety this time, no idea why. I was a basket case waiting for the PET, but not this time. It will be what it will be.

I start out with “Monday Morning Adulting” - paying bills, answering non-urgent e-mails, updating the to-do list. That gives me a sense of control (I know it’s an illusion, but I enjoy my unreality.) The rest of the week it’s time in the studio & true crime podcasts to de-stress.

so that I alternate between seeing the doc & his NP for visits. If your doc is part of a group, maybe speak to the practice manager to see if you can switch to another doc within the group. If you prefer writing, that would be the way to go - an email or note via MyChart.

For me, it would depend on the length and quality of my relationship with that doctor, and your preferred communication style. I have ongoing communication issues with my medical oncologist who just doesn’t “see” me. So I spoke to his nurse practitioner about it & they worked out a schedule change

That’s amazing! Yea for the NHS for continuing this research while here in the US, it’s just been squashed by our lunatic, anti-vax Secretary of “Health.”
