A MUPPETS CHRISTMAS: LETTERS TO SANTA is a fun little TV special with a nice song & dance number w/ Jesse L Martin, a sexy airport agent Uma Thurman & Nathan Lane stealing his scenes as a TSA agent alongside Bobo the Bear. Nowhere near as good as A Muppet Family Christmas though... Fun outtakes 3*

Natalie Wood, as precocious little Susan, is the best part of MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET (though Gwenn is a close second as a perfect Kris Kringle). The whole is-he-really-Santa mystery feels overplayed but this is probably the beginning of the trope. Funny how lazy postal workers help save the day 3.5*

Would have been nice if the bus ride into NYC had working TVs, but watching ELF while leaving NYC to come home was still just as good. Kids seemed to love seeing NYC landmarks they had seen in person but as always, I'm yearning for more Zooey & less Daniel. "So... do you wanna eat food? 😍" 4*

YUKI'S REVENGE is an add-on after the credits, making The Whole Bloody Affair even longer... From QT's opening David Carradine impression, I was wishing we'd gotten Paul Dano. The Fortnite "integration" into the story was laughable at times (not in a good way) and the Unreal animation choppy 1*

Wasn't sure I'd catch KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR but I'm glad I did (despite the Intermission issue). Not enough of an expert to know what's different (in-color Crazy 88 sequence, no Vol 2 recap/title-drop, that post-credit Fortnite fiasco) but it's still nice to rewatch these together 4.5*

Hoped KRAMPUS could be a fun horror Xmas film like Gremlins & maybe I was in a bad mood while watching it but a lot of it just didn't work. Wasn't expecting Krampus to have so many hench-creatures. Scott, Collette & Koechner have done so much better than to deserve this new Tommy Westphall lore 2.5*

Always thought I might have seen ELIZABETHTOWN & just forgotten to rate it, but very little felt familiar. Definitely a low point for Crowe (still yet to see Aloha)—and so was born the manic pixie dream girl. The Bloom-Dunst relationship is bizarre (as are the suicycle, sneaker budget & funeral) 2*

How many Allen films have him falling for girls half his age? With HUSBANDS AND WIVES I'm nearly halfway thru his filmography but it's so hard separating the art from the artist. The story/writing is good & the acting's well done, but the documentary-style feels out of place. More Davis/Pollack 3.5*

I tried starting the first ~20 mins of CRIES AND WHISPERS several times over the past month, but I was finally able to watch it during a blood donation (how symbolic). All four women give great performances, but I didn't feel much connection to the story and time jumps. Gorgeous looking shots 2.5*

I didn't even remember watching the 1.5* original when I chose DADDY'S HOME 2 for my ODRWHDR. Objectively, I know this isn't a good film & 3/4 of the daddies are bad/horrible men, but I still ended up laughing a lot. Isn't that what Xmas comedies are all about? Fun new cameos & great soundtrack 3*

Glad I watched HAMNET in theaters because I'd have had more trouble staying focused at home. Maybe Zhao's style isn't for me—everything of hers has gone downhill since The Rider. Buckley gives a powerful performance (as does young Jupe) but I didn't connect to the story even though I'm primed to 3*

Glad I rewatched CATCH ME IF YOU CAN & might make it an annual rewatch. Hanks & DiCaprio are giving nearly career-best performances (the latter ~5x over) & this may be the catchiest score Williams ever wrote. Shame Abagnale is the lyingest liar who ever lied. Still a good story though 4.5*

ONE HUNDRED AND ONE DALMATIANS is the best Disney film featuring a stillbirth. Other than that awkward conversation, the kids liked it, as did I. Lots of great dog animation from the plethora of puppies to the Twilight Bark. Plus Leven's songs were great. Surprised this makes my Disney Top Ten 4*

Still find it weird that Rankin & Bass added a terrible magician, an intelligent rabbit & Santa to pad out the "plot" in Gene Autry's FROSTY THE SNOWMAN. Maybe you need nostalgia to enjoy these & I don't remember watching it when I was younger. Animation is better than their choppy stop motion 2.5*

SENTIMENTAL VALUE didn't quite live up to WPITW, but Trier & Reinsve still made a film worthy of the Oscar noms it'll get. Lilleaas was the surprising standout among three more well-known stars. A devastating look at a broken family in a broken house (metaphor!). Gorgeous cinematography 4*

(Not) shocked the weaker second act led to a weaker sequel but WICKED: FOR GOOD opens with Yeoh's singing & never gets much better. Bloated & needlessly tied to (but legally distinct!) from a '39 classic, at least Grande & Erivo are still fantastic. Loved the Girl in the Bubble mirror sequence 2.5*

SNOW BEAR is another short that may get on the Oscar shortlist, so I figured I'd watch it before it disappears. The hand-drawn animation is gorgeous & the wordless story of a lonely polar bear is quite funny. Takes some obvious turns but is still a sweet story that's better than prior nominees. 4*

Was not expecting a movie that spun off a parody trailer to be so much fun, but Roth delivered w/THANKSGIVING (even that ridiculous trampoline scene). The film needed a dialect coach (so many bad & fading-looking at you Dempsey-Boston accents). Knew it would be a bloodbath during that cold open 3.5*

NORTH BY NORTHWEST was a default "fave film" for years, yet I haven't watched it in decades! Thought the kids might like it (I was wrong), but I enjoyed rewatching the best Bond film w/o James Bond. Saint is perfect & I wish Mason had more to do, but Hitchcock hits every set piece with aplomb. 5*

FOREVERGREEN is an Oscar-qualifying short that's leaving YT in a few days. Figured I'd watch it just in case it gets a nom & becomes hard to find. A manipulative parenting story that made me tear up with gorgeous animation (CGI wood-carving/stop motion?) & a Bible-verse jump scare at the end. 3.5*

Gave WICKED a rewatch & wish I hadn't. Erivo & Grande-Butera are both great (even if the KC impression grated at times) and everything is fantastic to look at, but the film could have been a good 30-40 mins tighter. Goldblum, Yeoh, Dinklage all felt woefully miscast. I'm scared for For Good 3.5*

NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON'T doesn't rely on the first 2 films (I don't remember much of either), but most everyone is back with 3 new, much younger magicians to help take down an evil diamond company with ties to Nazis. Perfect 2025 escapism! I think the story would work better w/o the magic 2.5*

TIL that SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS was a film first & not a stage adaptation. Probably couldn't get made today with the kidnapping & shotgun wedding ending, but that entire barn raising dance number felt worth it. Keel & Powell were good despite their love story being hard to believe 3.5*

THE RUNNING MAN tells an interesting story of one man against an authoritative propaganda machine, but it lacks anything that makes it a Wright film. One scene in a car trunk almost works (but ultimately felt like a shortcut). Powell did disguises much better in Hit Man, but his charm still works 3*
