Work by PhD student @jayatirsharma.bsky.social on how grouping Hispanic/Latino participants into a single group can obfuscate substantial substructure, leading to false conclusions.

We show how heterogeneity by background group wrt genetic ancestry and environment can affect genetic risk models.

In a new preprint led by @TheNikhilMilind, we explored a fascinating paradox:
For many traits the number of duplications or loss-of-function (LoF) mutations is correlated with phenotype. Curiously, for most traits, the AVERAGE direction of LoFs and Dups is the SAME. Why?

Here we demonstrate the potential clinical utility of a polygenic risk score of ulcerative colitis to identify individuals at high risk of developing immune checkpoint inhibitor-mediated colitis, particularly severe colitis.

I'm writing a molecular perspective on heritability, behavior, (and eventually) race/ancestry, group differences. The idea is to start with what we've learned from genetic data and then work backwards to what we used to know from classical studies. gusevlab.org/projects/hsq/

We’re back with a bigger and better GWAS of PSA levels! 🤩 We substantially increased sample size in African ancestry (+58k) and Hispanic/Latino (+23k) men, which translates into meaningful improvements in PRS performance

Check out our paper that identifies novel immune-mediated risk factors for glioma. We also found interesting genetic associations with survival and features of the tumor immune microenvironment 🧬 🧠
