At least I think it still is; perhaps our gravy-besotted president repealed the holiday because of its inherent pro-Native American wokity-wokeness.

IT TURNS OUT that in 1956 the U.S. per capita consumption of spirits (primarily whiskey) was 1.81 gallons. So, on average, everyone was drinking a gallon of whiskey each year. Can this be true? I would normally find that hard to believe. But…. I just read an old 1956 issue of Sports Illustrated. Now I think it just might be.

Some properties are returning to print and others are debuting for the first time.

“It's the Dance of Shiva, it’s the Debutantes ball, and everyone will be there who's anyone at all.” From Monkey Wash Donkey Rinse, written by Warren Zevon and Duncan Aldrich. When it comes to springboards for all those mega-super-battle-crossover things, a.k.a. event comics, it’s hard to imagine a more overused and hackneyed plot device than the Tournament. Everybody fights everybody, more or less one-on-one, until there is only one survivor who then must go on to vanquish the threat that started it all at least half-year previously, and then figure out a way to bring everybody back.

A COUPLE OF weeks ago, I shared my dad’s secret stash of old high school souvenir program books. I did a little digging, and it turns out there were companies that would create a templates for small towns to create professional-looking program books for their high school football games. They’d supply the cover artwork and the layout, and in some cases, even chase local advertisers to contribute.
