New video! Remember the Intellivsion Amico? Believe it or not, it isn't dead. In fact, three Amico exclusive games recently got ported to Nintendo Switch! Are they any good? Let's find out, in maybe the stupidest episode of Port Patrol yet!

Beat the first Silent Hill today! Had no idea what to expect going in, have never beaten a survival horror game before, but it was a really fun time!!
Surprisingly chill for a horror game, let me just focus on taking in the atmosphere and exploring the world, it was good : )

New video!

This was an unbelievable amount of work but I really feel like I managed to cover absolutely everything you'll ever need to know about GTA IV's RATMAN!

None of them ever made it out of low rank lol, High Rank is when the normal Monster Hunter co-op experience begins, but its unreasonable of me to ask my friends who weren't vibing playing by themselves to play the game for 20 hours so it could get good then
portpatrol.bsky.social
Of course the biggest crime Wilds commited was making me look like a twat because several of my friends were excited to play it, their first ever MH game, and I was like yeah these games are great co-op!!!

only for it to have the most convoluted, awful, terrible story mode to play co-op through

Rise also showed all monsters on the map, but those maps were small and the movement tech was fun, and you had to collect spiribirds to maximise your stats, so you at least had stuff to do on the way
portpatrol.bsky.social
the open space is just such an empty space, all monsters are always displayed on your map and your mount automatically takes you to the monster, so what could've been a cool open space to track down what you're hunting like in World just becomes a 5 minute trek across the desert that it does for you
portpatrol.bsky.social
who cares that its open world now with monsters you can seamlessly hunt. The best way to guarantee best loot drops is to start pre-determined quests, so I never ever hunted in the open field

It has a day night cycle now but again its like who cares, I'm not in a hunt long enough to see it

It's frustrating in Wilds because it really doesn't look any better than World, in most cases it looks worse, and a lot of the perfomance hit comes from stuff that is technically more impressive and more than they could do before, but really doesn't serve any gameplay benefit?
portpatrol.bsky.social
I guess technically? It's obviously a huge game and just as good as any of the mainline games, but it isn't considered a mainline game in the series, like World is the fifth mainline game and Wilds is the 6th

Wikipedia puts Rise in the Portable section, so it has good company with Freedom!
portpatrol.bsky.social
I think Monster Hunter going for a more realistic look in World and Wilds is such a mistake when the older games, or spin-offs like Rise and Stories with more stylised graphics are just infinitely more appealing to look at
portpatrol.bsky.social
its just so perplexingly blurry too
even running at native resolution it still looks like a blurry upscaled game its so ugly and I wouldn't care that much if it at least ran well but no !!!!!

it doesnt even look ugly or run badly in an interesting way either, just in the usual modern boring ways
portpatrol.bsky.social
several months later Im still perplexed by how monster hunter wilds looks

why does it look like that : (

where did all the colour go : ((

I’ve had keys sent to me before via email but I’ve never responded to them or used any because I’m too anxious to do it and aren’t even sure I’d cover it even when it is something I’m totally interested in 😭😭

3 I think makes up for a bit more by having really good gunplay, but the villains are more involved and constantly interact with the main cast which makes their decisions on what they do genuinely baffling at times, like yelling at my TV how dumb it is

The quest dialog is… just more borderlands
portpatrol.bsky.social
Made even more confusing to me by this post, showing the physical box art for the game that seems to use actual real art from the game, so I'm not sure why they didn't just use some of that????
portpatrol.bsky.social
It's a dirty job but someone has gotta do it 🫡

I love the Amico so much and these updates have provided more entertainment than the console ever could, I really hope it never ends
portpatrol.bsky.social
They're selling a copy of a game for a console that doesn't exist

That they say in the description they CANNOT gurantee will exist

But it comes with a free copy of the game on the Amico Home App

But Evel Knievel ISN'T EVEN ON THE APP

And they can't guarantee it ever will be

Is so funny
portpatrol.bsky.social
They're also apparently still selling the physical versions of the Amico games? They've moved the shop over to ebay, but you can own a physical copy of Finnigan Fox on a console that may or may not ever come out for just $25!

The funniest thing for me though is Evel Knivel and its description...

The biggest surprise to me in this newsletter was that they're actually going back and updating/fixing things with the games that they already released. I genuinely kinda expected them to just be abandoned.

So I guess once again I will be playing Cornhole to see if it works properly yet or not.
