I'm ready to say what's been going on. Early this year, my mother was diagnosed with an unusually aggressive cancer. She's been in hospice for several weeks, and after a brief but hard-fought battle, she passed away last week. Thank you to everyone who reached out during this heavy period of grief.
A massive upheaval is going on in my life at the moment. I'm not ready to explain exactly what's happening, but in the meantime, please be patient with me. Thank you to everyone who has stuck around after all this time. ❤️
It's so ironic that the point where I feel a video production is unlikable, ignorable garbo is the exact same point where I'm too far into it that I can't let it go. For better or worse, I've reached the point of no return.

Oxford University Press has chosen “rage bait” as its 2025 Word of the Year. The open-compound word, which beat out “biohack” and “aura farming,” goes back at least to 2002. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/30/a...

Yooka-Laylee (2017) is complete. I have a ton of thoughts on this, probably even more than when I made my original analysis video more than seven(!) years ago. Feeling primed and ready to dive into Yooka-Replaylee.

Hot take: the true test of media literacy isn't "do I understand the text's actual message?" It's "how can I apply that message into how I interact with the world outside of the text?" Very few people want to take that next step and that's where the real disconnect with media literacy is occurring.

Norway's Moron Police drew out a real winner with their 2019 album A Boat on the Sea, one of the most uplifting prog albums I had ever heard. The wait's been long, but now we have a follow-up: a concept album about "a guy who turns into a sentient Pachinko machine in Tokyo." Wild stuff. #NowPlaying

Someone is going to have to clarify to me when spoiler warnings, one of the smallest and easiest forms of consideration a video maker can make toward their audience, became an archaic concept that shouldn't exist anymore.

I've never listened to LOCRIAN before, but it's always good to try out music that you've never experienced before. With this in mind, I think I've found a new band to be obsessed with for a while. locrian.bandcamp.com/album/the-cr... #NowPlaying

Putting the kibosh on this idea.
I'm considering setting up some kind of written blog where I talk more in-depth about music. I don't think my opinions would be properly articulated through the video format, even on a separate channel. After writing about Swans' Live Rope album last year, I'm thinking about making it happen.

It's November 25 in Japan. 15 years ago today, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc launched for PSP.

I went to the Steam forums for the original Yooka-Laylee looking for the answer to a quick technical question and I can confirm that, as recently as October 2025, people are still hung up over the whole JonTron thing.

"Mall screamo" is the most hilarious genre tag I've ever heard.

Congrats, Donkey Kong Country 2, you've officially entered your 30's. Let's feel old together.

25 years since we released Banjo-Tooie! Have a boss-montage. Bosses are always the most fun to make. See how big and strong Mr Patch is!

Happy 25 years to Banjo-Tooie, which launched on November 20, back in 2000 for the Nintendo 64. This is one of my favorite games ever, one of the most involved and creative Metroidvania games of its era. As much of a curveball as it was, it's still such a thoughtful and lovable 3D platformer. ❤️

Revisiting Yooka-Laylee in 2025 has reminded me of just how much Playtonic Games has embraced this awkward self-deprecation over the last several years or so. It's one thing to be able to laugh at your missteps, but so many of their recent development and marketing decisions have screamed defeatism.

It's wild to me that, nearly two decades later, even with game technology having progressed so much further since, this is still one of the most overwhelming scenes you'll find in an action game. For all those design tricks the developers pulled, this battle still feels hype beyond belief. ❤️

Genuinely curious how YouTube folk are able to consistently release videos that are more than an hour long. This Donkey Kong Bananza video is a chunky one, and after more than an hour straight of VO recording, my voice was shot afterward. How do you all do it?

I've been watching Gachiakuta over the last few months. I haven't enjoyed a shonen series this much since Shaman King. Its cast is awesome, its art is incredible, and the story has so many clever surprises. The anime has actually convinced me to start reading the manga ahead of new episodes. Peak.

Today marks 20 years since our favorite ultimate lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog, got his own self-titled game. Despite its ridicule at launch and over the years, it's a game that I feel many long-time Sonic fans have formally confronted. It's a mess, but it's a mess with real purpose behind it.

My favorite album of 2020, Terminus by Jesu, turns 5 years old today. It's hard to believe that we've gotten to the point where the art we've experienced during the lockdown is getting into retrospective territory. What a beautifully crushing post-rock record. jesu.bandcamp.com/album/terminus
