An example of cherry-picking correlations to come to an erroneous conclusion.
Since the 80s obesity rates have doubled while heart disease deaths have halved...
A new journey begins. See how it goes preserving the few remaining beta cells ;)
My HbA1c journey since LADA diagnosis. Initially 9.6% I went super-strict and the HbA1c went down to 5.3% and led to mild EWDR (your eyes don't like big HbA1c drops).
The bump at 2022 was the end of my insulin-free honeymoon.
I'm now at 5.4% i.e. back to the HbA1c post-diagnosis
All finished with the endo and couldn't be happier. Access to a literal professor of endocrinology, spending about an hour with him (first consult) including a foot check. Scripts refilled and another appt in 6 months. All for the total price of $0 #MedicareRocks
Travelling to my endo by boat.
That is a wrap from #25ADC and #ADATS25 A final debrief with some #dedoc alumni (David Burren, @moodwife.bsky.social , and @t1bionic.bsky.social ) Again thank you NADCaustralia and DiabetesAus for enabling me to attend and being a #DAPeoplesVoice
AID is the preferred standard of care. Let's get pumps federally funded so ALL people with type 1 have access to this lifesaving technology. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Health care professionals: Learn from the users. They are often very friendly and keen to share what works for them. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
An interesting find. Long term intensive insulin therapy may improve glucose control but generally leads to weight gain which counters the long term heart health benefits #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Current state of beta cell transplants. We can achieve insulin independence with immune suppression but without it is still elusive. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
A vision for a 'cure' (normoglycaemia) in the future #ADC2025 #DAPeoplesVoice
Preliminary research suggests whey protein, 30 minutes before moderate exercise can be useful in T1D exercise. Call out to Dessi Zaharieva who was involved in most of the studies presented on stage #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Protein stimulated the liver's production of glucose and the quicker the protein absorption, the stronger the response. I have now seen a couple of studies using this to counter overnight hypos and for exercise. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) shown as beneficial for T1Ds including a reduction of insulin need, outside of weight loss, for reasons not yet fully understood. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Case study of using DPP4i's and SGLT2i's for LADA in an 18 year old. AGP shows strong response in terms of glucose variability #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Showing you can get T1D at any age, a case of an 83 year old with positive autoantibody T1D is presented #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Low carb is on the radar of research but this review of available data found limited reliable evidence, contrary to reports from lived experience. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Interesting poster looking at how fully closed loop compares to hybrid closed loop for different carb intakes. Short version is it compares well, authors including @bionicwookiee.bsky.social #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice #TryNotDeclaringOneMealOnAID
Another surprising result. No study has shown you can prevent type 2 diabetes in a community context. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
A really interesting result. Various studies show intensive lifestyle interventions with type 2 diabetes, doesn't improve heart health or all-cause mortality rates. Even when the intervention leads to remission. #25ADC #DAPeoplesVoice
Bad Word Bingo at #25ADC. This is the second time I've seen the word 'adherence' used in a stage presentation. #DAPeoplesVoice
