Filip Turek will NOT be nominated to the Czech govt—at least for now. After excusing himself from meeting President Pavel due to "acute back pain," Babiš removed him from the ministerial list. Convenient timing for someone who built a macho persona but now can't handle a meeting with the President.

#Czechia has a new Prime Minister. Sticking to his earlier promise, Czech president Petr Pavel has just appointed Andrej Babiš as the new prime minister of Czechia. Ministers have to be appointed next, before the country officially gets a new government. Until that happens, PM Fiala stays as well.

80 years ago today, Czechoslovakia lost its eastern-most territory, the so-called Sub-Carpathian Ruthenia, to the USSR. This was the result of immense pressure from Stalin, including staged "referenda" on the territory. As you can see, Kremlin tactics don't really change that much.

Polish ambassador to #Russia Krzysztof Krajewski was attacked in St. Petersburg by activists shouting anti‑Polish and anti‑Ukrainian slogans. Polish guards intervened, preventing injury. #Warsaw lodged a protest, calling it the most serious incident in years. Czech FM Lipavský condemned the attack.

#Poland has revoked the accreditation of the #Russian Consulate General in the Polish city of #Gdansk. This comes in response to the Russian-led sabotage, in which a railroad track was blown up near the Polish-Ukrainian border earlier this week. All Russian "diplomats" must leave Poland.
