I build tech for good. I also talk a lot about stuff that makes you think.

Hello to everyone on Blue Sky. Here's a quick intro:

My claim to fame is that I led the digital campaign to fight Brexit including the tactical vote campaign in 2019, in the process becoming the biggest political advertiser in the UK.
If politics depresses you, do not isolate or accept your condition.

Instead, become an engaged activist.

When you're an activist, news doesn't depress anymore, it energises.

My advice has a scientific basis (research linked below).

When does activism benefit well-being? Evidence from a longitudinal study of Clinton voters in the 2016 U.S. presidential election
Contrary to the expectations of many, Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The initial shock to her supporters turned into despair for most, but not everyone was affected equally. We draw from the literature on political ...

Of course it wasn't this generation who enslaved millions of people or colonised half the world - but as a good human, I take a deep breath every time I walk this city's streets, admire an old building, or take the underground. It's not an apology, it's recognition and acceptance.

This shouldn't be a hot take but while London is a wonderful city to live in, those who call it the greatest city in the world can only do so because they ignore this city's history and the source of its wealth.

I did some tech research into Grok and the scale of the problem is unprecedented. Thousands of requests every minute. Anonymous men posting screenshots of instagram stories and posts of women and removing their clothes. It's so obnoxious and I am aghast this isn't the headlines everywhere.

The case for Schengen was always evaluated on the basis of benefit for British citizens, not for the millions of immigrants. The unlock due to us being able to travel and transact freely with European business would be enormous, worth a lot to the British and EU economies.

UK: Hey EU, we’ve had a great idea.
EU: OK.
UK: We think our national interest suggests we’d be better off in the Single Market.
EU: Don’t say it!
UK: But …
EU: DON’T SAY IT!
UK: Obviously no Freedom of Movement.
EU: ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH

Given we're all talking about Venezuela I thought it'd help to know how big it really is

Trump needs to do something really bad, like spray paint a plane, before Darren Jones and Keir Starmer can condemn him

Also, show me a British newspaper that has used Indians in a science lab photo to illustrate a story about immigration and I'll eat my hat.

Don't ever make the argument again that immigrants are coming over to do low-paid jobs you won't do. We're literally raising everyone's game.

Non-US-aligned countries will be looking at how Trump abducted Maduro and thinking only one thing: how do we get nuclear weapons.

It's the only proven deterrent to US meddling.

Yes, agree. Starmer would say that the UK is in a unique position to mediate between Trump and Europe.

So much magical thinking around following Starmer's ridiculous comments on Single Market alignment this morning.

There can be no cherry picking, and you are either in the Single Market or you are a third country (potentially paying through the nose for partial access via bilateral agreements).

Trump and Rubio both said repeatedly that they tried to bring Maduro onboard but he was unwilling. So it is possible all this took place because Maduro was uncooperative and did not bow to the emperor.

This is why at venues I always go for prosecco, at least then the drink is tolerably bad.

Switzerland doesn't just have freedom of movement with the EU, it's in Schengen, something even many remainers are unconvinced about. The EU won't entertain this proposal at all.

I know the Overton Window for war crimes has shifted considerably given Israel's actions in Gaza, but Pete Hegseth is a war criminal.

This is Brexit all over again but worse, because we are again willingly destroying the very thing that feeds us - just at a time when we are at our weakest.
Net migration has fallen again to 204,000, the lowest level since 2021 and is forecast to continue falling over the coming years.

Not that you would know it from the endless coverage of Britain's supposed "immigration crisis"
November 27, 2025 at 1:26 PM
I'd still come, because of cultural affinity if not economic possibility! Britain offers such a good quality of life once you settle in.
November 27, 2025 at 1:23 PM
Turns out we hit my net migration forecast a year earlier.

Now, all we need to do is brace ourselves for the economic impact.
This is shaping up exactly as I predicted.

There are further effects from Covid-era student-arrivals and post-study workers, these will show a further downward trend in net migration in 2026 numbers.

I suspect we'll be down to about 250K net migration by the end of 2026.
