We're heartbroken to share that chimpanzee Jason passed at age 33.

Rescued from research, Jason spent 25 years at PPI. He was known for his smile, infectious joy and love of treats.

He lived closely with his companion Baxter, who will miss him dearly--as will we all.

Rest easy, Jason ❤️

Pant-hoots for the airwomen and airmen from Lackland Air Force Base who recently volunteered with us. They made enrichment items, chopped produce and organized our winter barn.

And of course, fell in love with Baxter, who was born in 1999 in a lab that is now defunct.

THANK YOU!

Primarily Primates is home to more than just primates--we rescued 3 wild horses from BLM captivity.

Here's Comanche and Bindi bonding through mutual grooming, a powerful display of trust and connection.

PPI applauds Congress’ reintroduction of the Captive Primate Safety Act, which would end the pet primate trade in the US.

PPI knows all too well that primates belong in the wild and not exploited as pets--over half of our primates are ex-pets.

In a sanctuary setting, it's our job to introduce variation for the animals to keep their brains and bodies active.

That's where our enrichment coordinator and San Antonio native, Laura, comes in!

We held a birthday bash for Emma, one of the four chimps we just welcomed!

Our newest residents are looking for sponsors; you can become a sponsor here: primarilyprimates.org/.../don...

Support is greatly appreciated; it costs approximately $35,000-45,000/year to provide care for one chimpanzee.

Intergenerational friendships aren’t just for humans—just ask Joe Joe and Elfie! Elfie, a 20-year-old long-tailed macaque, has always had a nurturing side. After caring for an elderly vervet, she’s now taken young Joe Joe under her wing. #primates #sanctuary

Spring means Big Nights for frogs, toads & salamanders, but roads make migration dangerous. 🐸 🚗 Slow down on rainy nights above 40°F, avoid wooded roads & push for crossing signs to help them survive! #BigNights #SlowDownForWildlife friendsofanimals.org/big-nights-a...

On March 18, Friends of Animals will argue before the 10th Circuit to stop the BLM from erasing Wyoming’s wild horses to appease the meat industry. Wild horses absolutely have a legal right to exist on public lands and we intend to prove it. friendsofanimals.org/friends-of-a...

Laura is 2nd in command in her group and rarely seen without her stuffed sheep “baby.” Like many chimps used as breeders in labs, she carries it to satisfy her maternal instincts. She’s also a foodie who always gets her share first! See how you can sponsor her: primarilyprimates.org/product/laura/
