As a music producer, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using presets; they generally sound great and can let you lay down an idea quickly.

But if there is a particular type of sound you are looking for, you may be looking for a long time, and that gets in the way of your creative momentum.

How I made the bleeps & bloops for "Purpose Of The Machine" from the album "Echoes Of The Mechatronic Age".

It's made up of two synth sounds. I programmed a series of patterns in the Matrix sequencer and automated it to switch each of the sounds to different patterns at different points.
